20 meters away from the Sqala (city wall facing the ocean) and with a dramatic sea view from its split level terrace, le Consulat is on the corner of one of the medina’s main streets by the fortified sea walls.

The spacious and luminous central courtyard, covered by a retractable skylight and flanked by arches, has an otherworldly quality. The recent restoration work has returned the building to its original form : the ground floor with its large kitchen and colonnaded dining area, the first floor and its intimate and interconnecting warren of bedrooms and sitting rooms.

There are four double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, one single bed in each sitting room; 3 toilets (one on ground floor, two on first floor), one upstairs one with bath/shower, the other with just shower. Ensuite bathroom with shower for the terrace bedroom)

Some historical facts : When the new port of Essaouira was created in the late 18th century by order of the Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdallah it became one of the most important trading port on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Essaouira’s eight major trading partners had consulates in the city. Le Consulat in one of these, and is a building from the city’s inception.
