Courchevel enjoys the finest in amenities, including six Michelin-starred restaurants, bubbly nightlife and high-end shopping. It's little wonder that the world's elite, including royalty, regularly pay a visit to this prestigious resort in the French Alps. The resort actually comprises a number of resorts/villages located at and named after different altitudes throughout the region, each with their own particular charms. Courchevel 1300, or Le Praz, is an extremely pretty village with a traditional alpine feel. Well-connected and possessing some wonderful restaurants, bars and boutique shops, there are no shortage of reasons to stay here.
Courchevel 1550, also known as Courchevel Village, is a relatively small village, offering a quieter atmosphere than its surrounding villages, while providing easy gondola access to the livelier areas. This is the perfect spot for those looking to enjoy a more relaxed, intimate break in the French Alps, without feeling cut-off form everything.
Courchevel 1650. or Courchevel Moriond, is, by contrast, livelier than Courchevel Village, without being overwhelming. In fact, it's the perfect spot for families to enjoy, striking the right balance between buzzy and relaxed and providing plenty of green and blue slopes. There are lots of dining options available as well as a handful of great bars for a spot of après ski.
Courchevel 1850 is the most exclusive of the villages, with some of the wealthiest clientele anywhere in the Alps. Given its status as the most luxurious ski resort in the world, it's no surprise that royalty and celebrities are often found here, where the high-end boutiques, exceptional restaurants and an airstrip, not to mention top-class skiing, provide everything that the elites could wish for.
For those wishing to look beyond skiing in winter, Courchevel also offers plenty of other outdoor options, including a tandem paragliding flight and a thrilling toboggan run from Courchevel 1850 down to 1550 that is certainly not for the faint of heart. Others may opt for the more leisurely - but no less enjoyable - sleigh ride with huskies or horses pulling you through the stunning landscape, while snowshoeing offers another opportunity to enjoy the spectacular great outdoors. Of course, given its lofty status as a hub for the super-rich 1850 has now end of spas, boutique shopping and fine dining to keep even the most restless occupied, while further down the mountain the provision of leisure activities is consistently strong.
Beyond its status as a winter retreat for the rich and famous, the fabulous resort of Courchevel also provides some wonderful outdoor activities during the summer, with the region's natural beauty lending itself perfectly for mountain biking, hiking and horse-riding among other activities for the whole family to enjoy.
For those in search of a truly unforgettable experience, a hot-air balloon trip over the region can also be arranged.
