Gastronomy in Cambodia - Cambodia

Traditional dishes full of exoticism

In Cambodia, the art of cooking results from two influences, that of India and China. Cambodian gastronomy skilfully combines the delicacies of these two important countries in Asia to make a veritable explosion of flavours. You will often find, as staples, rice and fish.
In the Khmer Kingdom, eat fish or chicken in an exotic coconut container. The coconut milk will bring the Indian touch to this traditional dish that is the Amok. If you want to cook in your holiday villa, you will need lots of spices like turmeric, lemongrass and paprika. You bake in a banana leaf and the trick is played.
To cook the Lok Lak, another Cambodian specialty, consider cooking beef with a wok. Meat must be prepared with soy sauce and oyster sauce. It is then seasoned with Kampot pepper and palm sugar. The idea is to mix with some onions. Once ready, this delicious dish is mostly accompanied by rice and lettuce.
Still in this world of exotic flavours, Somlor Koko comes to surprise your taste buds. Spinach, papaya, eggplant and again chicken and pork mix to give an exquisite soup. For a little taste, rice vermicelli and grilled broiled rice broth will complete these ingredients. The vermicelli soup retains the Chinese touch of this specialty.

Just as exotic desserts

As for desserts, Cambodia favours natural fruits. That said, during your stay in Cambodia, expect to taste some exotic fruits. Simply peeled, cut and presented pleasantly, the fruits of the dragon, jacquier, papaya and mango are savoured at dessert.
If you want other more elaborate recipes, opt instead for banana rice cake. You can also enjoy the delicious coconut flan or the KrobTotim, varying from tapioca to coconut milk.
