4 tips to take better travel photos

At a time when smartphones allow us to call, film, search the web and take great photos, mementos of our travels are everywhere on the Internet. If you, too, want to take great photos and keep memories of your escapades, Villanovo has put together a list of tips to help you come back from your vacation with a film full of memorable photos.

Frame your shots properly

Frame your shots properly

Whether you use a smartphone or a camera, you have the option to add grid lines that allow you to properly position the subject in the frame. It would be a shame to capture only half of the Tower of Pisa or the Koutoubia mosque.

Moreover, a well-framed photo is a photo that you can print out and then place in a frame, so that you can show off to your loved ones. Especially when they are stunning views of the Algarve beaches for example!

Don't overuse the capture button

Don't overuse the capture button

On a trip to a country you've never visited, you'll be tempted to capture absolutely everything. However, this will take up too much space on your camera's storage, but when you look at your photos, you'll get overwhelmed by the chaos of the endless collection pictures which have little value. Capture moments of life, historical monuments, the sunset, the smiles of the people you travel with, so that only the best moments are captured.

Using Portrait Mode

Imagine posing in front of somewhere magical like Christ the Redeemer in Rio or the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the picture is not perfect. To achieve a more professional look in your photographs, use the "portrait" mode available on your smartphone and you will get a picture of impeccable quality with a play of light-controlled automatically by the software.

Is the professional equipment truly necessary?

Is the professional equipment truly necessary?

If you want to go to a country that offers beautiful landscapes and cultural sites like Thailand and you are convinced that a camera will produce better pictures than your phone, don't be mistaken. Indeed, the quality of phones these days is almost as good as traditional DSLR cameras, especially when you use the few tips above. Don't get bogged down with a professional camera if you don't master the settings and remember that the best camera, is the one on you at the time.
