8 captivating activities to do in Barcelona

  1. Visit la Sagrada Familia: The famous unfinished basilica designed by Gaudi, which has been under construction since 1882 is a must-see when in Barcelona. We recommend going to La Sagrada Familia in the morning and buying your tickets online in advance as otherwise it can be very crowded.
  2. Immerse yourself into the Spanish culture at Mercat de la Boqueria: At the heart of Barcelona, just off Las Ramblas, is found the Boqueria market which is a traditional spanish food market. One gets lost in the narrow alleys full of delicious cold meats such as Serrano ham or fuet, fresh and colourful exotic fruits and condiments such as stuffed olives, all regional products. The selling point of this market has to be the stalls which also serve as tapas bars where one can taste the exquisite spanish gastronomy in the most charming environment.
  3. Enjoy a promenade through Park Guell: Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city in Park Guell, another trademark of Gaudi who designed and lived in the park, in the ‘Gaudi house’ otherwise called ‘ The gingerbread house’ which is open to visitors. The most astonishing views of the city can be seen under the palm trees of the hills of the park, a sight to behold.
  4. Admire the Font Magica: This beautiful light show in front of the National Palace solely happens when dusk settles down. The colourful lights and enchanting music will take you to another world for a period of time, a must-do in Barcelona.
  5. Walk down Las Ramblas: This road which begins at Plaça de Catalunya and ends at the harbour is the most famous street in Barcelona. Restaurants with lovely terraces cover the street, as well as street artists with the most charling paintings of the city as well as plenty of souvenir shops to make sure you don’t leave empty handed.
  6. Have a romantic meal on Plaça Reial: In the heart of the gothic quarter, which displays the remains of the Roman city, this delightful square is filled with delicious local restaurants where one can savour some tapas with a glass of sangria while admiring the yellow historical buildings and the verdant palm trees which make the beauty of it.
  7. See Barcelona from above with the Montjuic cable cars: The best way to appreciate Barcelona’s splendid skyline is by taking a cable car from Montjuic park to the summit of the hill, where the castle, which is a cultural landmark of Barcelona, is situated.
  8. Treat yourself to some shopping: Barcelona’s shopping has been reputed as being one of the best in Europe, it would therefore be a shame not to tempt yourself to some while being here
