The best family outings in Andalusia

Southern Spain offers a wide range of activities and landscapes to discover. While in Andalusia, get off the beaten track and go on an adventure. Whether you are hiking in a green setting, exploring mythical roads and monuments, or horseback riding, here are the best escapades to do in Andalusia.

Explore the white villages (Pueblos Blancos)

Explore the white villages (Pueblos Blancos)

The route of the white villages is a must-do in Andalusia. These white houses nestled in green mountains run through the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga. Visible from afar, this white sea contrasts with the natural landscape amidst fields and crops. Stroll through the picturesque little streets and see the whitewashed facades decorated with colorful plants.

Once strategic locations due to their height, these hilltop villages now offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. This route is an ideal opportunity to discover typical Andalusian architecture while enjoying the sunshine.

Get your shoes ready and set off on an adventure through these steep streets!

Go along the Monachil trail to the Sierra Nevada

Go along the Monachil trail to the Sierra Nevada

Only one hour from Granada, the Sierra Nevada is the second largest mountain range in Europe. In winter, these snow-capped peaks attract many enthusiasts to ski and enjoy the slopes.  Opt for a trek to the peaks of the Sierra Nevada and its highest point, the Mulhacén.

The park of the same name, in the same location, offers the possibility of doing many activities with family and friends. One of the most popular hikes in the park is along the Monachil River: Los Cahorros. This short trail leads through the green hills, from where you can enjoy magnificent views over this natural paradise. Along the way, you will discover caves, rivers, and waterfalls and even cross a suspension bridge. These canyons are a real playground for climbing enthusiasts!

During your hike, if you wish, a guide can accompany you.

Visit the Castillo de Santa Catalina

Once a strategic frontier, the province of Jaén has a large number of castles and remains that bear witness to its rich historical past. The battles of Las Navas de Tolosa and Bailén were fought here. Both a land of history and culture, the landscape of Jaén is designed in large part by olive groves.

In these green hills, perched on the heights, you can discover one of the magnificent castles of Andalusia, the Castillo de Santa Catalina. This Christian fortress of Arab origin is a must-see historical monument during your stay in Andalusia. Take a walk through the walls, look up at the towers and admire the view over the whole city and the surrounding countryside. At its heart is an interpretation center where visitors can learn more about the castle and the city.

Every Wednesday afternoon, the castle is open to the public free of charge.

It is home to different ecosystems in which you will see a diverse range of fauna and flora, a unique landscape of wind-blown dunes, cliffs, lakes, and marshes.

A horseback ride is the best way to discover this site. Enjoy the experience of being in the middle of nature and make incredible memories. In the distance, you can even see long stretches of white sand bordering the ocean.
