The Fair of Malaga (Feria de Málaga)

The "Feria de Málaga" dates back to 1491 as a celebration commemorating the city conquest. It's celebrated every August and begins on the 19th of August for up to 10 days. During this time, the whole city dresses up in their best folkloric costumes; women don on their flamenco dresses and put on big colourful flowers in their hair. People flaunt along the streets with their horses and carriages, and bars and establishments set up special discounts for drinks and food for the festive occasion. People are dancing and singing on the street, and the whole city lights up at night with beautiful decorations. This fair is arguably the most popular and famous festival on the Costa del Sol. People from all around Spain and Europe travel to experience the joyous and festive atmosphere of Malaga during this time. Not only are tourists able to experience fun and lively parties, but enjoy the lovely weather, delicious gastronomy, beautiful beaches, and impressive museums.

The "Feria de Málaga" is composed of two main fair areas: the night fair and the daytime fair

The night fairground is where they hold the main festival. Divided into two sections, in the first one you'll find various food stalls and typical theme-park attractions for children and grownups alike. In the second one, you'll find the "casetas de feria", known as numerous food and dance booths where you can expect lots of flamenco, Spanish, and popular mainstream music. Various concerts with famous Spanish Andalusian singers also take place in this enclosure. Additionally, one can find street-fair stalls for buying souvenirs and items in the most typical flea-market style.

The daytime fair is held in the city centre, where people are on the street partying and enjoying the various food and drink offers; music is playing at every corner and bar in keeping with the festive atmosphere of this special occasion.

Fuengirola is a town in Malaga with a variety of festivals; among these celebrations, we highlight the following:

"Feria Internacional de los Pueblos" - The International Fair of the Villages

This fair runs in spring and goes on for a whole week. With its more than 30 booths and each one of them representing a foreign country, you can set off on a world tour in this exciting cosmopolitan fairground. Tasting different local gastronomies and dancing to each country's folkloric music is what you can expect here-- arguably the most international festival in Andalusia.

Virgen del Carmen

In July, the religious festivity of la Virgen del Carmen celebrates the worship of the Virgen del Carmen (a popular local virgin Mary). Followed by a faithful crowd, they carry in procession a religious figure from its church into the sea. After this event, people light fireworks and gather on the beach at night.
