Top 5 destinations to capture incredible drone photography

Over the previous decade, drones have become less niche and more of an essential for photographers and travel enthusiasts who crave to gain the perspectives of the heights and capture some truly remarkable views through photography or videography. Aerial photography has become less associated with big budget production companies and more about opportunities for anyone to freeze a moment in time for lasting memories of places you have ventured to. Drones are great catalysts for exploring new places and spending time with family, friends and enthusiasts alike. In other words, why shouldn’t your next holiday be centred around your hobbies? If golfing or surfing is not your thing, head for the skies and discover the magical mountains and beaches from above.

Thailand

Thailand

A few of the main components for exceptional drone photography are colour and texture, and thankfully the luscious green mountains and the turquoise blue coasts are the perfect subject for aerial shots. Thailand is the ideal place for flying your drone as you can find many spots with clusters of islands. Kao Tao is an island in the Gulf of Thailand and is a remote but popular location for shooting. It also makes it a little harder for large quantities of tourists to head over, meaning that images you capture are usually completely free from any photo bombers.

While off the grid locations like this always seem like the perfect place to fly, make sure to check local regulation to ensure that using your drone is safe and legal.

Mexico

Mexico

When it comes to capturing the sites with a drone, Mexico has it all. From the magnificently vibrant nature to incredible cityscapes. The Yucatán Peninsula is the ideal place to head for as it offers crystal clear waters. Cancun is perfect if you are looking to shoot some incredible scenes throughout the day and enjoy the nightlife at night. Although, if you head further south to Playa del Carmen, you find a much more tranquil setting for some delightfully undisrupted drone time. Although, you can’t miss the Mayapan further north; a breath-taking historical site waiting to be discovered.

Croatia

Croatia

Whether you are looking to capture some aerial shots for Instagram or maybe an even more impressive project, Croatia is a go-to location for drone photography and videography. Many popular drone locations can overwhelm you with endless nature scenes. But the convergence of cities and nature is commonplace in Croatia, giving you the best of both worlds. A spot frequented time and time again by drone creatives is Rovinj, a fishing port on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. This magical town is composed of tightly packed houses which gradually escalate upwards towards a hilltop church. When flying not flying your drone, this town is the perfect place to lose yourself in. While it doesn’t have many attractions, its charm alone will keep you in awe for hours.

Swiss Alps

Swiss Alps

While we mentioned earlier that color and vibrancy are essential elements to aerial photography, that isn’t entirely true. Sometimes taking the monochromatic approach can be equally (if not more) dramatic. One of the perfect places to achieve that is the Swiss Alps. Mount Titlis is an incredible location for some snowy mountain top photos. On the other hand, if you are looking to expand your portfolio from the same old aerial views, kick things up a notch with some fast-paced skiing videos. This will be a thrill to share with the family or friends when you can relive these exciting moments back at your chalet.

Mauritius

Mauritius

Much like Thailand, turquoise waters won’t be such a rarity. Leaving you spoilt for choice with different areas you can set your drone free to capture some incredible scenes. One location in Mauritius in particular is the famous underwater waterfall. This geographical wonder can only be appreciated from the sky, usually costing hundreds on a helicopter tour. Although, if you believe you are adept enough to find the right angle with your trusty drone, this is something you shouldn’t miss if you are escaping to the island. Moreover, if you are looking for something a little more extraterrestrial-looking, head for the Chamarel Coloured Earths. These multi-coloured sand dunes are a popular attraction for visitors of the island. However, to get an even better perspective, give yourself a birds eye view with your drone and experience the ripple of the sand and the shimmer of the colour from the heavens.
