What to take with you on a trip to the Algarve: the essentials!

The Algarve is a superb region in the south of Portugal, where the seascape meets high and impressive rocks that cut the coast perfectly and have now become the identity of the Algarve. From summer to winter, the landscape varies and the region changes its face, so it's up to you to choose when to go there! If you haven't yet had the opportunity to discover the Algarve, Villanovo will be happy to provide you with the essentials you need to pack your suitcase for a flawless stay.

The Algarve offers an exquisite climate in summer with warm days and fairly airy evenings, however, don't be lulled by the beauty of the scenery as in fact in the Algarve you will be swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, which brings humid air to the region. The water temperature can drop to 4 degrees in August, a big change if you are used to swimming in the Mediterranean in Greece or Spain, but look on the bright side: it will really cool you down!

In the middle of summer in the Algarve, average temperatures are around 30 degrees with 20 degrees from 7am with clear skies throughout the day, so let the sun gild your skin and you'll be looking and feeling great! If you are travelling to cities far from the coast, such as Loulé, expect warmer than average temperatures, as these cities are deprived of the sea air that refreshes the atmosphere.

If you're planning to go to the south of Portugal for a relaxing holiday, the list of things to take with you is quite simple and the same as any trip to the Mediterranean with some basic essentials that you can't do without. In addition to essentials such as sunglasses, bathing suits and sunscreen, as well as a head covering for the youngest ones as the sun is beating down, don't forget to bring your photo equipment! If you're a keen photographer, you'll be delighted with the incredible scenery that the region has to offer and enjoy taking pictures of every detail of the Algarve's nature. If you're not yet a professional photographer, but you too want to capture some great shots of the region, adopt the tips for taking great photos!

If you decide to go on a trip with friends, Villanovo advises you to bring a one-piece swimsuit, which may help you to withstand the water temperature. The Algarve is an ideal destination for a stay with friends, and in towns such as Albufeira or Faro you will find many dancing bars and nightclubs, not to mention good restaurants where you can discover the region's gastronomy!

What to expect for a sports holiday in the Algarve

What to expect for a sports holiday in the Algarve

If you are not afraid of the summer temperatures and want to do some physical activities to discover the region despite the heat, pack your suitcases well!

The Algarve offers many hiking trails, each one as spectacular as the next, which will allow you to gain height and admire nature from the top of the hiking trails! For a sporty holiday, there are some things you should not forget. If you decide to do several physical activities, remember to bring a hiking bag so that you can carry everything you need, such as the keys to your villa, water to resist the heat, a snack, and your sun cream, because even in the early morning the sun is there! Also, remember to bring a good pair of shoes and in case a day of hiking has exhausted you, you can always relax in a beautiful villa with jacuzzi. Don't neglect the presence of mosquitoes, you may come across many of them when you are in the countryside, that's why Villanovo advises you to bring a shirt or mosquito repellent tops, which have a repulsive action so you will be rid of itchy bites! If you are going on a full-day hike, don't hesitate to get a water bag, they are more practical than bottles, which will allow you to hydrate easily.
