Natural landscapes of rare beauty
The hinterland is mainly composed of mountainous massifs offering breathtaking landscapes. The highest massif is the Serra da Estrela, a unique site with mountains as far as the eye can see and splendid glacial lakes. The centre of Portugal has many hiking and cycling trails to discover the countless beauties of the region. The most adventurous can be tempted by rafting, climbing or even canoeing. It is also an opportunity to visit the various thermal springs and river beaches, renowned for their soothing and relaxing benefits.
An impressive cultural and historical heritage
The centre of Portugal is renowned for its authenticity. Many sites, sometimes millennia old, proudly tell the history of the country. Some of them are now part of UNESCO's World Heritage List, such as the University of
Coimbra and the Alcobaça Monastery. However, its many villages of granite and shale frozen in time are also worth discovering. The small medieval town of
Óbidos is worth a visit as it is one of the most picturesque and well-preserved cities in Portugal, not to mention the unique stone architecture of
Castelo Branco.
