Attica was the territory of the city-state of Athens. It is a peninsula that juts out into the Aegean Sea between the Gulf of the Petalis Islands to the east and the Saronic Gulf to the west. It ends at its southern end with Cape Sounion which is 45 kilometers from Athens. The center of Attica is today highly urbanized with the agglomeration formed by Athens, Piraeus, Chalandri, Maroussi, Acharnes and Eleusis. It is an attractive holiday destination due to the richness of its history, its culture but also its beaches and its varied geography.
