Santa Barbara castle
On Mount Benacantil, at 169 meters of altitude, the fortified castle of Santa Barbara overcomes Alicante and testifies the historical heritage of the region, which does not only have beaches as assets. Although professionals found traces of human presence from Bronze Age on the mountains, the castle was however built on the 9th century, when the muslim dominated the south of the country. It is thus passionating to visit the preserved vestiges of this building. A windfall for History lovers!
