The relatively small area of Méribel was established as a ski resort back in the 1930s and has remained an emblematic European ski destination ever since. Found in the beautiful Savoy department of eastern France, close to the borders with Switzerland and Italy, The Trois Vallées region of the French Alps is the largest interconnected ski area in the world. Méribel enjoys a reputation for lively nightlife and a great après-ski scene. Within the main town itself there are a number of options for après ski entertainment, with a small but high quality selection of restaurants and bars, as well as late night venues in the form of the popular O'Sullivan's Bar (Sully's), Rond Point and Les Saint Pères Mythic Club, all of which provide visitors to Méribel plenty to do (including hear live music!), when their day on the slopes has come to an end.
Those wishing to explore beyond the confines of the main town might choose to venture to one of the several villages in easy reach of Méribel, including glitzy Courchevel 1850.
Every year Méribel attracts an exclusive crowd of winter-sports enthusiasts, who come to stay in luxury chalets and make the most of the premium ski experience on the vast network of interconnected slopes in the winter. For those seeking something to do beyond skiing, Méribel offers a number of options.
The town counts an ice rink among its attractions, providing a great option to embrace the winter aesthetic without exposing yourself to the cold. For those still wishing to explore the great outdoors, there are a number of snowshoe trails to entertain you, as well as the kids-friendly options of sledding and husky mushing, not to mention horseriding. If you're in search of something a little more serene, Méribel can provide a number of high-end spas to visit, as well as some excellent foodie shopping experiences where the finest pastries and rub shoulders with local cheeses and charcuterie. Méribel village also provides a selection of high-end, luxury shops and boutiques, while the small Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires de Moûtiers also offers an insight into Savoyard life through the ages.
The nearby hiking trails are absolutely worth exploring in the summer, when the local flora presents an altogether different face of the Alps. Sat on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, Méribel provides excellent access to this awe-inspiring natural beauty on show, with the national park's pristine lakes, magnificent mountains and unspoiled valleys often only a short walk from the townships. In the Vanoise area alone there are over 500km of hiking trails for you to explore, making Méribel the perfect place to rent a luxury chalet at any time of the year.
