The quaint village of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville provides the same easy access to the Trois Vallées ski area as many of the bigger name resorts, albeit without compromising the cosy, lived-in ambience and enchanting snow-globe feel that makes the village so charming.
The Resort of Saint Martin sit at an altitude of between 1400m and 3280m, and benefits from a healthy total of 33 ski lifts. Almost half of the runs are blue pistes, with 24% red, 14% green and 10% black making up the rest of the tracks. 28km of cross-country skiing, a halfpipe and a terrain park complete the winter-sport offering.
Meanwhile the 600km of pistes and approximately 160 lifts available throughout the sprawling Trois Vallées, the largest interconnected ski area in the world, ensures there is something to suit all levels alongside first-rate amenities to serve them.
Saint-Martin is a relatively quiet and traditional alpine resort with a less celebrated après-ski scene than some of the bigger names, such as the nearby Val Thorens and Courchevel. However, that's not to say it's devoid of places to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat in the evening. Most notable is, of course, La Bouitte – a sublime restaurant not far from the village of St Martin, boasting 3 Michelin stars and serving up the highest quality in Savoyard gastronomy. Elsewhere, don't be deceived by the more humble, rustic surroundings of La Ferme de La Choumette - the food is mouthwatering, while the cosy Le Montagnard offers a delightfully intimate ambience in which to while away the hours.
And for those looking for something a little livelier… thanks to the excellent location of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, you are never far from other celebrated après-ski spots, such as the popular Val Thorens, where the world famous Folie Douce awaits.
For those looking for activities and experiences beyond the slopes, the beautiful nearby surroundings provide plenty of opportunities for a spot of hiking (or snowshoeing), igloo-building(!) or even some family-friendly dog-sledding, to leave your lungs well-filled with crisp alpine air and the heads of little ones full of memories. Meanwhile, luxuriant spa treatments, massages and aforementioned après ski will leave non-skiers with plenty to keep themselves entertained during their intimate alpine escape.
