Made up of 11 villages dotted about the slopes of the Tarentaise Alps some 20km from the Italian border, La Plagne combines traditional Savoyard charm with high altitude, purpose-built ski accommodation, guaranteeing plenty of options for the discerning skier to choose from.
Connected by 75 ski lifts, its sprawling 225km of open pistes and sheltered pine-forested runs cater for every skill level but are particularly attractive for beginners or those of an intermediate level, even offering the possibility of traversing the whole resort on blue runs alone. And with 70% of the ski runs situated above 2000m, La Plagne is a reliably snow-sure destination.
Beyond the obvious ski and snowboarding options, La Plagne is also the proud home of France's only bobsleigh track, with unique sleds designed specifically for tourists to enjoy.
And if the 225km of La Plagne's own pistes aren't enough for you, then access to the combined 425km of the vast Paradiski ski area, the resort connected to Les Arcs and Pesisey-Vallandry by the Vanoise Express cable car, will leave you with an abundance of options. La Plagne Montalbert (1,350m) is a tranquil, traditional village nestled amongst picturesque woods. Renowned for its charming Savoyard architecture, Montalbert offers a relaxed pace with gentle slopes, making it ideal for families and beginners seeking a truly authentic experience.
Plagne 1800 (1,800m) is a former mining village featuring a collection of charming wooden chalets. Couples and families are drawn to its cosy, relaxed atmosphere and stunning surroundings, offering a peaceful retreat from the day's activity on the slope.
Located in the historical alpine farming commune of Bellentre, Montchavin (1,250m) still retains many of its original buildings. Today, three chairlifts serve Montchavin, with one linking to Les Coches and the Paradiski ski circuit. Montchavin exudes a delightful mix of authentic charm and modern ski facilities, creating a beautiful, traffic-free resort. With its gentle slopes and inviting atmosphere, families and beginners will find Montchavin particularly appealing.
Les Coches (1,450m), meanwhile, is located at the centre of the Paradiski circuit and next to the Vanoise Express cable car, also linking into the La Plagne area by a six person high speed chair (Plan Bois). This area offers many delightful runs down through extensive larch and pine tree forests and the accommodation is mainly high quality, self-catering apartments. A family-friendly resort, Les Coches features a largely car-free centre and child-focused facilities, making it a great place for a family ski holiday and an ideal base for exploring the wider region.

During the season, the lift operates until midnight, while regular ski lifts close around 5:00 pm, ensuring those wishing to explore the après-ski scene a few more hours of fun.
Finally, Champagny-en-Vanoise (1,250m) is a genuine Alpine experience, steeped in heritage and with close ties to Savoyard culture. Its south-facing slope allows for greater sunshine. However, combined with its lower altitude it enjoys comparatively less snowfall than in other areas of La Plagne.
