Whether you are looking for authenticity, wild beaches or entertainment, the Ile de Ré is undoubtedly a destination to suit all tastes. Each village has its own appeal and there is no doubt that you will find the village to suit your holiday expectations.
Let’s discover four of its most beautiful villages!
The historic capital and largest village on the island, Saint-Martin-de-Ré is appreciated by all for its dynamism and its range of activities, both day and night. If you want to party during your holidays and keep going until the early hours of the morning, this village is ideal for you. Everything is within easy reach: supermarkets, transport, etc. The village also has several historical sites, including the citadel, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Looking for a village that combines vitality and authenticity? Set down your suitcases in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré. It is the perfect village for a calm and serene holiday, as it is a little less crowded than Saint-Martin-de-Ré. Situated in the south of the island, this village has preserved its authentic character, thanks in particular to its agricultural tradition, which remains important today. Your programme of visits should include exploring oyster farming and tasting, and fishing on foot...
Located 29km from the island's bridge at the western end of Ré, the picturesque village of Saint-Clément-des-Baleines is a great choice for a holiday removed from the busier areas. Known for its superb beaches, including the woodland-bordered Conche, this village is in a prime location. Here you will have access to a wide range of activities: exploring the unspoilt coastline, walking in the forest, strolling through the village and ducking in and out of the aisles of its friendly marketplace.
Finally, the lesser known Bois-Plage-en-Ré is a little gem, ideal for a stay devoted to pure leisure. It is rather dynamic during the day and offers a real holiday atmosphere with its wealth of activities. Rent a bike or enjoy beautiful walks along the coast and its large sand dunes. If you are a surfing enthusiast, some of the best spots on the island are at your disposal.
