An Unforgettable Night Out in Lisbon

First time partying in Lisbon? Here's all the information you'll need about Lisbon's nightlife. With so much to choose from, it can be overwhelming to know what to do and where to go.

A night out usually begins with a little food at one of the exquisite restaurants that Lisbon has to offer. Afterwards, the best option is to go for a drink at a vibrant bar, perfect for interacting with friends, locals and other travelers passing through. Culminating with a visit to one of the famous clubs, which will guarantee you an unforgettable night.

The Old Pharmacy

Who doesn't need a painkiller once in a while? Take it in the form of a glass of wine in a pharmacy that is over 100 years old. The drugs that once filled the display cases were replaced by bottles of wine.

The staff is very knowledgeable and up to the task when asked for matching recommendations. If you show up early, it is not too difficult to find an intimate corner to soak up the atmosphere. Towards the end of the evening, the wine barrel tables fill up quickly, as The Old Pharmacy is a favorite spot for locals and visitors of Bairro Alto. When drinking the wine, ask about its origins if you feel like it, or just sit and relax in what looks like a hidden gem.

Most of Portugal's wine regions are represented, with the Alentejo and the Douro Valley standing out: try the Quinta do Passadouro Reserva 2007, a noble red with an alcohol content of 14.5%. If the night is hot and dry, the light and fresh green wine Dona Paterna Colheita Alvarinho 2010 will be enough. The optional tray of cured hams, spicy sausages and cheeses works wonders and the mix of flavours is extraordinary.

Casa Independente

Casa Independente is a mansion that has hosted all kinds of clubs and organizations during the last century. This last version is undoubtedly the liveliest incarnation. It can be described as an eclectic place with diverse dynamics, which promotes the meeting of diverse audiences in a multidisciplinary cultural space with the aim of sharing and exchanging experiences.

The Casa has a varied programme that includes concerts, exhibitions, workshops, artistic residences, recitals and saraus, among other activities. The Salão Tigre, located in the front, hosts concerts and DJ sessions, there are also several small rooms that are good for chatting or working on your computer, and the cafeteria and backyard are great places to relax.

The bar serves a good variety of teas, fresh juices and cocktails, while snacks are served until midnight.

Monkey Mash

If you're looking for something a little more sophisticated, then head over to Monkey Mash! It's a modern tropical cocktail bar that specializes in the use of exotic alcohols, with an experimental approach.

The decor is colorful and ingenious, so you'll enjoy the experience even before you try the drinks, and what a menu they have... Menu highlights include Danos Selvagens, made with Blue Cured Agave, Pierre Ferrand Dried Curaçao, salsa verde and za'atar; Spice Mule Tepaché with Seedlip Spice 94, Premium Schweppes, Ginger Beer, Spice Tepaché; and Root Beter, made with Bacardi Ocho, Rubino Martini, Beet, Apricot and Cocoa Shell. The prices of the drinks range from 8.50 to 11 euros.

Incognito

If you're looking for a place to dance all night, this is the place for you. More than three decades old, Incógnito in São Bento is still a great place for an alternative night out.

The small dance floor quickly fills up with fans of indie, new wave, post-punk and other more indie trends in rock music.

The entrance fee is always 5 euros with a drink of your choice included.

Titanic sur mer

The Titanic Sur Mer is a few steps from the river bank, near the train station of Cais do Sodré. It used to be a fish market. The place satisfies different musical tastes every night. One night you can enter to be seduced by the jazz rhythms, and another night by the vibrant Samba

The music rotates every night, and on weekends you see numbers that swell to overflowing. Drinks are reasonably priced and the door policy is relaxed and informal.

Musicbox

Musicbox is one of the most interesting places in the city, with a regular schedule of rock bands, electronic live acts, singer-songwriters and DJ sets. The space has an underground atmosphere and is located in Rua Nova do Carvalho, known as Rua Rosa, which was once one of the most dangerous streets in Lisbon and is now one of the liveliest at night.

Whether it's a DJ or a live band, MusicBox is home to several projects that reflect its tradition and commitment to modernity and challenge. One example is the Jameson Urban Routes, which was the first indoor festival in Portugal and a self-proclaimed barometer of new trends in urban music.
