Winter is approaching and we are all preparing for it in our own way. Get out the winter coats and jackets, your warm blankets and most importantly, be ready to devour the winter recipes and dishes that have been in the household forever. Winter dishes are always special, they are not only delicious, but also keep you warm and active during the bitter winters. Winter dishes are mainly composed of seasonal vegetables available during the winter, as well as being loaded with proteins such as meats of different kinds and also fish. Today we have made a list of some delightful winter recipes from all over the world that are unique and special in their own way. Oden, Japan 

Oden is a Japanese one-pot dish which is basically a soup with tofu, vegetables, eggs, fishcakes, which are one of the main ingredients in Japan, flavoured with soy sauce. Oden is eaten in any season in Japan but its hot soupy nature with a lot of ingredients in it makes it a winter dish. Oden is sold in food trucks in Japan as street food but there are also dedicated Oden places which serves quality Odens. Some izakayas which are small cafes in Japan like the Chiringuitos in Spain, also serve Oden. Oden has regional variations within Japan and is also a popular dish in Korea, Taiwan and China with their own versions. 
 
 

Poutine, Canada 

It is a simple dish yet so popular worldwide. Poutine is made with french fries, cheese and gravy. It originates in the Quebec region of Canada from the 1950s. The first inventions of the dish and who had invented is rather still controversial but Poutine is called the national dish of Canada and is also popular in northern USA. Poutine is served in small cafes to bigger restaurants all over Canada. But initially, the dish was served in small diners where fast food is served but gradually with the popularity of the dish, more variations were added and the recipe reached fancy restaurants where ingredients like truffle and exotic cheese were added to it. 
 
 

Shepherd's Pie, The United Kingdom 

The famous pie from England. Shepherd’s pie is a meat pie topped with mashed potatoes eaten alone or as a side dish. The origin of the dish can be traced back to the 1700s but back then the name of the dish was cottage pie and not until 1854, the dish was renamed as shepherd's pie. However, more commonly, the dish is called a shepherd’s pie if the meat is of lamb. The dish originally was made from leftovers combined with and created a new dish. Although the main ingredients in this recipe is meat and mashed potatoes, other ingredients like corn, peas and also mushrooms can be added.

Fondue, Switzerland 

The very popular fondue is the national dish of Switzerland, which received this status from the Swiss Cheese Union in 1930. Fondue is an absolute pleasure on a cold winter's night to devour with your favourite vegetable, bread or anything you like because cheese makes everything perfect! Fondue is a melted cheese served in a pot that is usually shared, where everyone shares the fondue from the same pot. Ingredients that are dipped are usually on an iron skewer and the fondue pot is constantly heated by a candle. Another variant of fondue is the chocolate fondue which is also very popular. 
 
 

Tagine, Morocco 

Tagine is the North African version of a stew from Morocco that is excellent for winter. With its rich aroma and warming spices, tagine is the best and our personal favourite winter dish. Cooked in a traditional two-piece clay pot, the tagine has no single recipe or any particular ingredients? Every Moroccan household has its own version of the tagine, but what is common is the use of amazing Moroccan spices and the clay pot designed specifically for slow cooking makes it a perfect way to bring out the best flavours of the tagine. 
 
 

Onion Soup, France 

Another very famous dish from France, the onion soup is a meat-based broth with loads of caramelized onions on it. Onion soups are traditionally in the past were known to be as food for the poor but with time the popularity of the dish grew and by the 18th century it was a very popular dish all over France. The French onion soup was introduced for the first time the United States in New York in 1861 by famous restauranter Henry Moquin where his wife was the chef of the restaurant. The onion soup can be served as a meal or an appetizer, but overall, it is a fantastic dish to warm up your winters.  
 
 

Tortellini in Brodo, Italy 

Originating from the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, these are small pastas filled with ham, cheese, or vegetables. The origin of this delicious dish was said to come from the servants of the royal families who used the leftover meat from the families and filled up the pasta. In the winters, the same tortellini filled with meat is eaten in a hot broth of meat which is perfect for you to keep you warm in the winters. The broth, the meat-filled pasta acts as a pumping food for you. The broth is usually a clear chicken broth lightly herbed and flavoured with garlic.
