What to do during a layover?

Your trip is booked and all you have to do is fly to the destination you've been dreaming of for months? The only downside, a long layover that awaits you? Often considered as a waste of time where we wonder how we are going to keep ourselves busy, layovers nevertheless offer many opportunities. At Villanovo, we will give you our advice on how to make the most of your time and transform your layover into a real moment of your holiday.

What to do during a layover?

  • Our very first piece of advice is, if possible, to choose a layover in a city that attracts you and that you have wanted to visit for a long time. Depending on how much time you have available, why not take advantage of your layover to (briefly) visit a monument or soak up the atmosphere of a destination you like? This would be an opportunity for you to kill two birds with one stone. Some major airports such as Singapore-Shanghai even offer guided tours during customer layovers.

  • Take advantage of this time to immerse yourself in your journey. It's the perfect time to review your program and refine the stages of your trip by checking the itineraries or adding activities you hadn't thought of. It's also a good time to look for the right places to go on your trip to plan a dinner, for example, and read other travellers' opinions.

  • If you only have a short layover and don't have time to venture outside the airport, taking advantage of the airport's services is also a great idea that should not be seen as a choice despite. Today's airports are increasingly innovative in providing entertainment for their customers. In particular, shops are ubiquitous and worthy of shopping malls, which is perfect for a little shopping or if you still have gifts to buy before your arrival.

  • Relax! Your stopover is above all the time to relax on your journey before the hustle and bustle of your arrival. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the VIP area, also known as the airport lounge. Even if you are not travelling in first or business class, these are available at generally reasonable prices. The best of them will offer you restrooms with small beds and showers in addition to their comfortable lounges and food. Dare to chat with the other travellers around you, this will allow you if you are alone to spend a little more time and it is sometimes in the airports that we have the best encounters!

  • If you are surrounded by your family, your layover is also the ideal time to finally say yes to your children’s desires to play games. At the same time, you will find several activities for children in large airports, such as areas with slides. Between friends, it can also turn into a very fun moment if you also decide to gather around a game of cards.

  • Finally, if you are motivated, we advise you to do something that you usually put off all the time. Examples include sorting your mailbox, deleting the many photos that have accumulated on your phone, or calling someone you haven't found the time to check in for a long time. Once you've done this, these small actions, often postponed to the next day, will certainly give you personal satisfaction and give you a good start to your holiday.
