Cannes 2023: Our Prize Selection of Exquisite Villas Showcasing the Very Best of Cannes

Every year in May the French Riviera is abuzz as the talented and beautiful from the world of cinema descend on Cannes to showcase an exclusive selection of the finest new features, shorts and more being readied in anticipation for release to the wider public.

These sneak previews for industry insiders and glitzy award ceremonies can make or break new films providing unprecedented momentum and publicity to independent releases and up-and-coming directors (see: Pulp Fiction), or otherwise (see, or perhaps you didn’t: Grace of Monaco). This year sees the 76th edition of cinema’s biggest event, with a whole constellation of star names sure to be in attendance, as among the screenings are Harrison Ford’s final outing as Indiana Jones as well as new features from Oscar-nominated Alice Rohrwacher and auteurs such as Martin Scorsese, Wes Andersen, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Ken Loach, Wim Wenders, and many more.

For this year at least, Villanovo’s presence at Cannes will be limited to a stunning ensemble of elegant villas, with star turns from several of our big names, including the gorgeous Villa Morane and the simply majestic Le Grand Jardin. So, without further ado…

Villa Morane – beautiful views to set the mise en scene

Villa Morane – beautiful views to set the mise en scene

Beautifully designed and tastefully decorated, the exquisite Villa Morane sits high on a green hillside looking out towards a wonderful panorama of the Bay of Cannes. Providing over 1000m² of space, it counts a fitness room, infinity pool, tennis court, sauna and games room among its charms, and sleeps up to ten guests. It also has a heliport.

For those in search of even greater luxury and space, you can rent it combined with the equally impressive nearby Villa Beranger and Villa Santine, which sees its capacity rise to a staggering 34 guests. Perfect for popping open a bottle of something with some friends after receiving the Palm d’Or.

Villa Sareta – an intimate feature, with some delightful set pieces

Villa Sareta – an intimate feature, with some delightful set pieces

An intimate and stylish villa, Villa Sareta, which houses up to ten people and offers jaw-dropping views over the bay of Cannes, is among our top picks for a luxury stay in Cannes.

It boasts a décor that is simple without being simplistic, instead of begging for your attention it lets the appeal of the gorgeous natural surroundings charm you, with large bright bedrooms and shared living spaces enhanced by large doorways and windows to let in the warm sunshine and stunning views over the bay.

A large, heated swimming pool adorned with sunbeds and surrounded by a number of terraces (including those providing much needed shade from the midday sun), an outdoor kitchen and bar complete the picture. Divine.

Le Grand Jardin – a sprawling epic

Le Grand Jardin – a sprawling epic

Quite possibly the most beautiful and most exclusive property in our entire portfolio. This awe-inspiring 13th century estate is the only private property on the island of Sainte Marguerite, itself a leafy secluded haven, reserved down the ages for kings and dukes alike.

Accessible only by boat or helicopter, this breath-taking, eco-friendly estate features 12 bedrooms spread across 7 separate buildings and offers unparalleled natural beauty in the form of a 14,000m² botanical garden, featuring a splendid pond topped with lily pads, beautiful terraces, an elegant swimming pool and a sweep of olive and lemon trees (among many others) to infuse the air with the sweetest of fragrances.

Guests can benefit from the estate’s full complement of house staff, including private chef (breakfast and 3-course lunch and dinner), concierge, night staff (those cocktails won’t mix themselves…) and much more. A stunning property and very much the blockbuster of the list.

Villa Kania – a masterpiece of understated beauty

Villa Kania – a masterpiece of understated beauty

Set a little further inland from the Bay of Cannes, in the wonderfully leafy environs of Mougins (where Picasso famously spent his later days), the rustic charms of Villa Kania are superbly complemented by high-end facilities and splendid design.

A luxuriant garden includes swimming pool, tennis court and boules area alongside lovely, dedicated spots for outdoor dining, drinking or simply relaxing.
The stylish design of the exterior continues inside with grand, shuttered windows and doors allowing in plenty of natural light and open plan living areas which beautifully combine aesthetic splendour with a cosy, welcoming ambience.

Villa Rina – an applause for the lighting director

Villa Rina – an applause for the lighting director

A lush Mediterranean garden takes pride of place in this wonderfully designed boho-chic property. Although less grandiose than some of the other properties in this list, its charm is undeniable, with a careful eye evident in the choice of décor and furnishings. Meanwhile, the presence of superb open plan kitchen bathed in natural light, not to mention a wine cellar certainly does it no harm. Perhaps not the Palm d’Or but surely in the running for Un Certain Regard.

Villa Wenda – a view of high drama indeed

Villa Wenda – a view of high drama indeed

This impressive, whitewashed house situated within the nearby Cap d’Antibes peninsula, manages to strike the perfect balance between the lush natural surroundings of its garden and an imperious, pristine elegance. This is, of course, supported by a view over the Baie des Anges with the snow-capped Alps in the distance.
It’s easy to imagine you and your friends relaxing by the pool and sipping something citrusy while discussing the merits of the latest Julia Ducournau feature.
