News: 25th edition of the Dolomiti Ski Jazz music festival is underway

The Dolomiti Ski Jazz Festival brings music fans to the scenic slopes of the Fiemme and Fassa valleys this week, with a series of shows showcasing the best in jazz, funk, blues and Latin music.

The festival, which runs from the 3rd to the 12th of March, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, with 26 events taking place over the course of the nine days. The now-traditional event features some of the top names in Italian jazz alongside a number of international artists.

The daytime concerts, held at 12 noon, in the high altitude surroundings of Italy’s famous Trentino region, will see performers grace the popular slopes throughout the valleys of Avisio.

Italian jazz luminaries such as Fabrizio Bosso, Stefano Cantini and Francesco Maccianti, will welcome several international figures to picturesque region, including saxophonist Bobby Watson, a monument of Afro-American jazz, and former bandleader of the legendary Jazz Messengers.

This fantastic festival will feature the irresistible rhythms typical of every concert by James Thompson's band, who will perform a double live show on 8 March at the Chalet 44 Alpine Lounge in Bellamente. On March 9, the pop blues project of singer Dario Defrancesco will be on stage at the Zischgalm Hut.  We then return to jazz with the quartet of Venetian saxophonist and singer Marco Furio Forieri, expected on Friday 10th at Chalet Valbona.

Among the new additions to this year’s event is the participation of the municipality of Cembra, who wanted to join the festival by hosting a concert by the group Kicca.

One of the most eagerly awaited concerts is that of Bobby Watson, on the 8th in Castello di Fiemme, who will celebrate his seventieth birthday with his quartet. On Saturday 11 March at the Auditorium del Palafiemme in Cavalese, the quartet of the Turin-based trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso will offer a tribute to the music of Stevie Wonder, before Venice Ska-J closes this popular musical event on Sunday 12 March.

An extra highlight is the "Happy Cheese" aperitif, held throughout the month of March, which provides visitors with the opportunity to sample the local delicacies with a glass of fine wine.
