The Home

No 39 is a gorgeous colonial villa that harkens back to days gone by. The three bedroom boutique property has been recently updated, renovated and lies within the walls of historic Galle Fort.

Besides being a first class accommodation, the villa’s location makes an excellent platform to explore Southern Sri Lanka with its beautiful beaches, sporting venues, exciting safari parks and even the Fort itself.
This elegant three-bedroom terraced villa was built in the 17th century and reflects the history charm and character of its colonial past. While many of the records were lost, No 39 was said to be the home of a wealthy merchant of the Dutch East India Company.

Today, the villa has been meticulously renovated while preserving much of its original structure and comfortable appeal. The home has lost none of its romantic, colonial feeling and takes guests back to a time when life took on a slower, more considered pace. Upon entering the home, guests will be welcomed by the vault like, 30-foot high ceilings with arches and columns. The villa’s lush, tropical courtyard was maintained to offer a private oasis in the middle of the city.

No. 39 is spacious, airy and filled with natural light from its large floor to ceiling windows and skylights. Its bedrooms and bathrooms are beautifully appointed with modern amenities. There is also a lofted TV/family room.

No. 39 comfortably accommodates a party of 6.

The villa is supplied with two helpful local staff that will be responsible for housekeeping and will go out of their way to make the villa’s guests stay comfortable and memorable. They will, on request, prepare and serve continental breakfast and mouthwatering Sri Lankan cuisine. Extra charges apply for all meals except continental breakfast.

Staying here on Lighthouse Street you will be part of a world where time has seemingly stood still. No. 39’s living and dining spaces located on the ground floor boast a 30-foot exposed timber ceiling, large windows and antique Dutch period furniture. Meals are served at the 8-10 seat dining table or out on the terrace. Multiple ceiling fans cool the space.


Master Room
The master suite is located upstairs with a spacious ensuite bathroom. Its polished Mahogany floors and high exposed timber ceilings gives a luxurious Colonial feel to the room. The large windows open out to a balcony with refreshing garden views. The main part of the bedroom is fully air conditioned. The master suite is tastefully furnished with an antique four-poster bed and Dutch period bedroom furniture. Luxurious Egyptian cotton bed linen completes the decor.

Second Bedroom
The spacious second bedroom is located downstairs and has garden views with large doors opening out to a patio. It features an antique four-poster bed, polished floors, beautifully restored period furniture and luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding. Adjacent to, and serving both downstairs bedrooms is a well-appointed bathroom.

Third Bedroom
The third bedroom has views of the cobblestone paved Lighthouse Street and opens out to the living spaces. It features high antique timber doors and large windows that make it airy and full of light. It is beautifully and comfortably furnished. It has an ensuite WC but shares a bath with the second bedroom. Both bedrooms are fully air conditioned and also have ceiling fans.

Reading Room
Adjoining the master bedroom is a reading room with comfy, cushioned reclining chairs.

Family Room
Also on the upper floor is the lofted TV/family room with satellite TV and DVD player. It is cooled by a ceiling fan and overlooks the living spaces. All areas have fans.

Terrace
The living space adjoins a beautiful terrace furnished with comfortable day beds and reclining chairs that are perfect for relaxing with a book. The living area borders a verdant garden from which the rich scent of Jasmine flowers permeates the air.

Kitchen
The kitchen is equipped with all modern appliances and is perfect for guests who wish to make their own meals or have the staff prepare meals for them. The kitchen leads off to the laundry and staff quarters.

- Children must be supervised by an adult at all times when using hot tub, pool, sauna or hammam

- Pool has no swimming guard
- Smoking is not allowed inside the house
- The house must be returned in the same condition of check in. Otherwise fees can be charged to the customer.

Reservation conditions

- Guarantee deposit charged by Villanovo upon reservation : 30 %
- 2nd payment 85 Days to arrival day : 70 % of total amount of reservation is due to Villanovo.
- Hotel / Owner may require on site payment to be made in local currency. .
- The reservation price does not include optional incidentals or on-request items which will be added to your final bill.
- Payments in local currency are subject to variation in currency exchange rates.

Cancellation policy and cancellation fees

- Any booking modification or cancellation must be sent to us by email
- Cancellation policy is applied according to villa local time
- For all cancellations, the initial guarantee deposit is non-refundable.
- Cancellation occurs less than 85 Days to arrival day : 100 % of total amount of reservation is due to Villanovo.
- No show 100 % of total amount of reservation is due to Villanovo
