About Villa Sammasan
Sammasan is a vibrant villa brimming with life and colour, from its superb sea and tropical sky views to its whimsical interior spaces and the warm hospitality of its staff.
Spread over four levels, Sammasan is a true home away from home. Indoors, the main gathering spot is the large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. Bright with eye-catching touches including a zinc-topped dining table circled by sunny yellow chairs and overhung with a trio of colourful pendant lights, the room is fronted by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that flood it with natural light and give easy access to the pool, sun terrace and shaded sala. Down half a flight of stairs on the mezzanine level is the media room with TV/DVD player and ultra-soft sofas to sink into.
The entire top floor is taken up by the lavish master suite, a large space with breathtaking sea views best enjoyed while soaking in the bathroom’s jacuzzi tub or out on the suite’s comfortably furnished private balcony. Two brightly hued guest bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with twin beds, are tucked away on the lower floor, each with an ensuite bathroom. Each room is adorned with a lively mix of paintings and art pieces that exude the villa’s fun character.
Included in your stay is the service of four dedicated staff including a Thai chef who is available for all meals, and a manager providing guest service in the villa as well as assisting with tour and dining reservations, transport, spa treatments and more.
Just down the hill is Surin Beach, an 800-metre stretch of sand that has been designated a royal park with the simple pleasures of sea, sand and shade to enjoy. Along the streets of the village approaching the beach are some of Phuket’s finest dining spots, spas and shops, while Kamala and Bang Tao beaches with a range of beach clubs, seaside restaurants and watersport activities are just a few kilometres away.
Villa Layout
Villa Sammasan is a spacious holiday home arranged over four levels with sea views from nearly every room. On the top floor is the master suite. Below are the main living areas, including lounge, dining and kitchen, which open to the pool and pool terrace. Half a level down is the media room, and on the lower level of the villa are two guest bedrooms and a utility room.
Interior staircases connect all four floors and every room has air conditioning. An indoor parking garage offers space for two cars.
Bedrooms
Master
Villa Sammasan’s master suite offers total seclusion and the widest views over Surin Beach. The chic bedroom suite occupies the whole of the top floor of the villa and is furnished with a king size four-poster bed, writing desk and chaise longue set under a vaulted whitewashed ceiling. Striking artwork adorns the walls and sliding glass doors lead to a private balcony with a built-in sofa and, yes, those fantastic views. The ensuite bathroom lies off a corridor fitted with a bank of teal-painted closets and featuring Sino-Portuguese design touches. Quality lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows add a glamorous glow to this large bathroom with its decadent sea view jacuzzi, his-and-her vanity sets and a rain shower.
Guestrooms
Next to each other on the lower floor, the villa’s two guestrooms are of a mirror-image layout with private balconies and ensuite bathrooms with showers and single vanity sets. The twin-bedded room, with a rollaway extra bed, is splashed in blue and white. Artwork features elephants and teddy-bears, making this room ideally suited for children (or playful adults!), while the queen size room has a more sophisticated tone, decorated in rich red with an intricately carved wooden wardrobe and black four-poster bed.
Living Areas
Indoor living
The retro lounge and dining room and sleek white kitchen with breakfast bar form the heart of Villa Sammasan, all set in a large open space. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels across the front allow the room to be opened fully to the pool terrace and the balmy tropical breezes or closed for air conditioned comfort. The lounge features a silky soft leather suite and low tables piled with books for all ages, with fabrics on the wall and floor adding a plush, warm ambiance.
The dining area is whimsically furnished with a zinc-topped table for eight and bright yellow metal chairs set under a row of candy-coloured lamps. A wall of display cabinets presents eye-catching trinkets and books, and houses the iPod dock that’s connected to built-in speakers in this room and out on the pool terrace. Just behind the dining area is the modern kitchen with its full set of appliances hidden away behind shiny white wall panels and cupboards for a more minimalist look. The breakfast bar offers seating for four, and a great perch for watching the villa chef in action.
Villa Sammasan’s media room on the mezzanine level is the only room without a view, which together with its subtle lighting adds to its retreat-from-the-world feel. The soft L-shaped sofa arranged to face the television will easily sway you to settle in for the evening.
Outdoor living
Villa Sammasan’s pool terrace is a well-designed tropical oasis. The 9-metre infinity pool in shiny blue tiling blends perfectly with the sea and sky. Lounging choices abound, with a shaded sala at one end of the pool furnished with sunken bench seating, a built-in sofa, plus sun loungers and a sofa set in a slick moulded white design. Just add sunglasses and a cocktail for Instagram perfection.
Location:
Villa Sammasan is part of the Surin Heights private estate, which comprises 10 luxury villas and a low-rise condominium. Set up the hillside near the end of the estate’s private road, the villa offers a full and majestic view of Surin bay on Phuket’s central West coast.
A five-minute walk down the hill takes you to Surin Beach, an 800m stretch of fine sand that has been cleared of all commercial activity and restored to its natural state. Take a longer walk down the road towards Kamala and find the hidden Laem Singh Beach, a small cove with lovely clear water for snorkelling. A few kilometres to the North is Bang Tao Beach, where part of the shoreline is lined with the several Laguna Phuket resorts and their spas, water sports, golf, upscale dining and other leisure activities. Find sunset cocktails and the occasional DJ party at the sprinkling of beach clubs along the sand.
In the hills and headlands around Surin Beach are some of Phuket’s finest villas and resorts including the Amanpuri celebrity escape and Twinpalms with its sought-after Sunday brunches. Surin is thankfully still resisting Phuket’s mega mall trend, but there are certainly some shopping treasures to be found here in the boutique clothing, art and gift shops in Surin Plaza and the independent shops along the streets.
