Huge luxury property in the North of Umbria, ideal for 14 guests, with 7 bedrooms & 7 bathrooms
Villa Montone is a former Medieval watchtower located on the ridge of a mountain above the Carpini valley in Umbria, Italy. It has been renovated and its interiors, auxiliary buildings and pool have been given a modernised touch in order to turn it into a contemporary haven.
The villa is kept in an authentic ambience with the tower and its 360 degree views over the valleys, which have been kept unchanged since medieval times. But despite the “removed from time” feeling of the residence, it is situated ten minutes away from the walled hill-top village of Montone and has access to routes to the lovely Tiber valley. Also, aligned on axis with the tower, you can find the outbuildings, gardens, terraces and an infinity pool of 25 metres.
The tower is surrounded by four external terraces. The East is home to a large formal dining terrace with classic Umbrian views while the South has a viewing pavilion which forms an inner courtyard with herb gardens. On the West terrace a stone fire pit with sunken seating areas overlooks the olive groves, and the North offers a large arrival piazza.
The property also possesses six hectares of land with oak forests and fields of olives and fruit trees. Collected rainwater is used for garden irrigation, and solar panels are used to provide energy for heating and hot water.
In the tower, harmony between the ancient exterior and the modern designs has been created through the preservation of the best historical aspects of the villa and its sense of history, contrasting it subtly with contemporary design and materials.
Divided on two levels, the public areas act as pivot from the centre of the tower and are easily accessible from all the seven suites found in the building. On the first floor you will find two interlinked reception rooms, and the ground floor will lead you to the kitchen and dining area, which have direct access to the terraces.
The villa offers seven suites, all ensuite and benefitting from direct private access to the outside terraces and internal spaces in the tower. The seven suites can welcome 14 guests, and if needed, some of them can accommodate extra guests for a total of 19 guests maximum. Extra beds above 14 are priced for €50 per night under 17 years and €100 for over 17 years and we can also provide cots and high chairs for children.
The West Room, consisting of a bathroom and a stone bath nestled in the medieval arc, a room with a rose covered external sitting area adjacent to the fire pit, which offers views of the olive groves to the West.
The West Suite is a luminous and large suite with spacious bathroom, quipped with a queen size bed and single bed sofa, with views of the fire pit and olive groves.
The West, East, North and South Tower suites are all designed as towers on two levels.
The West Tower Suite’s bedroom is situated on the level above while on the level below you will find the bathroom with shower and the terrace which overlooks the West and South over the herb gardens to the valley.
The East Tower Suite has the bedroom on the higher level, giving typical Umbrian views over the hidden medieval East valley; while the bathroom area and its stone bath is situated on the lower level.
The North Tower Suite’s higher level is home to the bedroom, which is equipped with two twin beds, and has a view of the East and South. A large bathroom with stone bath can be found on the lower level.
The South Tower Suite has a bedroom with a double bed that can be turned into two twin beds on the above level. It can accommodate three children or two additional adults and offers stunning views to the East and South. The level below has a large bathroom and a sitting area.
The Main Tower Suite, which is the most spacious and majestic suite of the residence, has a considerable sitting room equipped with a medieval fireplace and a library on the mezzanine floor. It also has a bedroom, a changing area which leads to a bathroom and a terrace overlooking the olive groves and the South and West valleys. If necessary, a sitting room situated in the tower can accommodate two additional single beds for children.
As obvious from the images, the tower is a medieval building on a mountain ridge, with terraces and steep drop offs, and is not suitable for children between 2 and 13 years unless supervised by parents at all times.
