Burano, Italy

Burano, Italy

Burano is the mini-Venice with fewer crowds, picturesque streets and colourful houses that stretch throughout the city. This Venetian countryside was originally a fishing town and agricultural land. It is located only 7 km from Venice. The town has small, brightly coloured houses and this has been the style of the town since ancient times and these houses are repainted every time the colours fade. Each house is painted in a different colour from its neighbours, making the town a colourful paradise. Burano's neon-painted houses make this small town very special and exceptional.

Menton, France

Menton, France

This small seaside town located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region on the French Riviera, is a fairytale town with buildings and houses in pastel colours. With only 29,000 inhabitants and a moderate climate all year round, this town looks like a magical storybook town! The most striking image of the city showing the vibrant colours of the town is from the port with the pastel-coloured houses as a backdrop. Menton is also known for its lemons all over France and in February there is the lemon festival called Lemon Festival.

Sintra, Portugal

Sintra, Portugal

The city of Sintra is protected by UNESCO as an architectural heritage site that has influenced art and architecture throughout Europe. Surrounded by lush green hills, Sintra has a quaint and tranquil atmosphere. The Palacio Nacional da Pena, which is located on a hill, is a colourful palace that gives Sintra a striking visual appeal both from afar and indoors; the mosaic flooring and roofs are equally enchanting. Sintra is filled with colourful Moorish and Gothic architecture that gives it a very exotic flair. Sintra is also one of the wealthiest places in Portugal.

Juzcar, Spain

Juzcar, Spain

The blue village of Spain! Juzcar is by far one of the most unique and spectacular villages in Spain and the world. Situated in the Andalusian mountains in the province of Malaga, above Marbella, the village has a peculiar story associated with its blue coloured houses. Originally, the village was a typical Andalusian whitewashed village, but in 2011 it was painted all blue by Sony Pictures Espana, during a marketing trick to promote the film The Smurfs, although after its completion of the promotion, the villagers decided to maintain their new colour. Today, the village is known as "Juzcar Smurf Village" and is a popular destination.

Pachuca, Mexico

Pachuca, Mexico

This is yet another intriguing story that has transformed one of the neighbourhoods with a dark past into a colourful facade. It is the slum of Palmitas in the city of Pachuca in Mexico. Once a neighbourhood infested with gangs, looting, murder and high crime rates, it is now a rainbow of colours with kaleidoscopic patterns that gives hope for a new life in the previously crime-ridden neighbourhood. The transformation began when a team of graphic artists called "German Crew" began painting 200 houses in bright lavender in 2015, and then another 300 houses were covered. Today, the graphic design of the artwork on the houses covers a total area of 16,000 square feet.
