La Durance River

La Durance River originates from the Alps as a torrential river, becoming tame as it runs calmly into the Luberon due to dams and land irrigations. With a total length of 323.8 km, the Durance is the most important river in Provence. It's home to an impressive array of fauna such as herons, cormorants and beavers. One can go for a relaxing dip or enjoy a picnic at its bank. You can also embark on a kayaking or rafting excursion and explore its surrounding wilderness and villages along the way, such as Peyrolles-en-Provence, Jouques, Meyrargues and La Roque d'Anthéron.
