We have all seen the statistics about the environment and how much pollution is affecting our planet. Everyone seems to want to help but a lot are unsure on where to begin. The assumption that traveling isn’t planet-friendly is false as these tips for plastic-free travelling, combined with eco-friendly accomodations and sustainable tourism will make a huge difference if everyone contributes. Remember, every little helps!

Let’s save the planet: 9 tips to reduce plastic use while travelling

  1. Switch your toothpaste: Help save the environment and pick the alternative to plastic toothpaste by trying Georganics Tooth Tablets. These foaming tablets are great for traveling as they don’t count as a liquid and they are cruelty and vegan free!
  2. Ban cotton swabs: These may look harmless but don’t be fooled by that impression. As Europe has agreed to ban them by 2021, why not make the change now use bamboo ones?
  3. Buy a reusable bag: While on holiday somewhere exotic such as Mauritius, you might want to replicate the delicious gastronomy and make homemade Samosas. When going shopping to buy the appropriate ingredients, opt for a reusable bag as opposed to the plastic ones given in the shop.
  4. No plastic straws: As useful as plastic straws may be while sipping on a cocktail on a beach in Ibiza, they are killing our marine wildlife.
  5. Change your suncream: Normal sun creams are destroying our coral reefs, which are responsible for 50% of the world’s production of oxygen. Choose to opt for a reef-safe sunscreen, especially in an exotic destination such as Mauritius where the coral reefs are abundant.
  6. Buy a reusable water bottle: This is probably the easiest and best way to save our environment while traveling. As well as reducing plastic, these are also better for us as plastic water bottles release toxins into the water we drink.
  7. Do a beach clean up: While on holiday in a coastal destination such as the Algarve, why not dedicate a few hours of one day cleaning the beach? Bring a bin bag with you and encourage others to join you!
  8. Change your deodorant: These essential daily life items are extremely harmful to the environment. Try a solid deodorant, which is made from natural ingredients and lasts longer than a normal deodorant, win-win!
  9. Invest in a shampoo bar: When going on holiday abroad, we like to bring our own hair products as every country has different brands and we want to use what we are used to. Invest in a solid shampoo, a shampoo bar. This genius invention can be kept in a carry-on luggage, ideal for short weekend getaway trips, lasts longer than a regular bottle of shampoo and is better for your hair, which is perfect for beach holidays as the salt harms our hair.
