Autumn is one of the best seasons to discover Morocco, from its lively medinas to the Atlantic coast and inland landscapes. During the autumn months, from September to November, Marrakech, Essaouira, Agadir and Oualidia each offer a distinct mix of culture, gastronomy, nature and outdoor activities, making it easy to plan a varied stay in Morocco and adapt your travel plans to different regions.

After the summer heat, temperatures begin to ease across much of Morocco, making October a particularly comfortable month for exploring. Inland areas become more suitable for walking and hiking, while the Atlantic coast continues to benefit from generally mild conditions. Autumn is also a good time to explore Morocco’s desert regions, when conditions are more favourable than during the height of summer.
The softer light and more pleasant weather make it a great time to spend longer days outside, whether exploring a medina, walking in the Atlas Mountains or following the Atlantic coastline.
By November, days are generally cooler, particularly inland and at altitude, and rainfall becomes more likely as the country moves towards winter. Conditions nevertheless vary considerably between the coast, the Atlas Mountains and the interior, which is worth considering when organising a multi-stop itinerary. Morocco’s varied geography creates noticeably different climates from one region to another.
This seasonal change makes it possible to combine several types of experience during the same stay, from cultural visits to coastal walks and mountain excursions.
Autumn offers a broad choice of experiences. Days can be divided between discovering local culture in Morocco’s medinas, surfing along the Atlantic coast, hiking in the mountains and organising a desert tour further south. Traditional crafts, local markets and encounters with musicians also provide another way to discover the country’s cultural heritage.
For a longer itinerary, the journey towards Ouarzazate and the Dadès Gorge reveals another side of the country, with rose-coloured canyons, mountain landscapes and walking routes through the High Atlas region. Depending on the itinerary, evenings and local celebrations can also provide opportunities to discover traditional Berber music.

Marrakech in October is easier to explore once the strongest summer temperatures have subsided. Days can be spent walking through the souks, visiting palaces and museums, or discovering gardens such as the Jardin Majorelle and Le Jardin Secret. Staying in one of our villas in Marrakech also makes it easy to combine time in the city with quieter moments at the property.
Within the medina, artisan workshops offer an insight into Moroccan craftsmanship, while Jemaa el-Fna changes character throughout the day. Taking time for a mint tea or exploring the city with a private guide can provide further insight into its local culture and history.
For a stay in the heart of the medina, Riad Annalissa and Riad Marta place guests within easy reach of the souks and many of the old city’s main sights.
The milder weather also makes it easier to spend more time outdoors. Terrace lunches, hammams and excursions beyond the city can all be combined during the same stay.
The Agafay Desert and the foothills of the Atlas Mountains are more comfortable to explore as temperatures fall, whether for hiking, a guided outing or an evening outside the city. For a longer itinerary through southern Morocco, the route towards Ouarzazate and the Dadès Valley extends the journey beyond the Marrakech region.
In the Palmeraie, Villa Talila and Villa Amarevie offer a quieter setting while remaining within reach of Marrakech.

Autumn’s mild conditions make it easy to divide time between Essaouira’s medina and the coast at a more relaxed pace. Morocco’s Atlantic coastline generally remains mild and sunny through much of the year, although conditions naturally vary from one day to the next.
Within the town, days can include walks through the medina and along the ramparts, visits to artisan workshops or time around the port. Along the coast, surfing, horse riding and long walks on the beach provide an alternative to cultural visits.
Our selection for an autumn stay in Essaouira: Dar Ondina and Sunny Baraka.
Agadir is well suited to an autumn stay thanks to its Atlantic setting and mild climate. Days can alternate between the beach, golf courses and surfing, while excursions inland reveal a different landscape.
The valleys and foothills of the High Atlas provide opportunities for walking and guided outings, making it possible to combine the coast and mountains within the same stay.
For a stay centred on golf and the landscapes of southern Morocco, Dar Maktoub is one of Villanovo’s properties in Agadir.
In Oualidia, autumn lends itself particularly well to discovering the lagoon and its natural surroundings. Smaller and quieter than Morocco’s principal coastal destinations, the village encourages a relaxed pace, with kayaking, walks beside the water and opportunities for birdwatching.
Local gastronomy is another highlight of Oualidia, particularly its oysters and seafood, which can be enjoyed in restaurants overlooking the lagoon.
Villa Lagon, positioned above the estuary, is well placed for exploring this quieter stretch of Morocco’s Atlantic coast.

Villanovo brings together a selection of villas and riads across Morocco, from traditional properties in Marrakech’s medina to larger villas with private pools, house staff, a private chef or direct access to a golf course.
In Marrakech, the collection extends across the Medina, Palmeraie, Royal Palm and Amelkis, offering different ways to experience the city. Villanovo also offers properties in Essaouira, as well as villas in Agadir and Oualidia, allowing clients to combine inland and coastal destinations during an autumn stay.
Villanovo’s dedicated concierge service accompanies clients before and throughout their stay. Depending on the destination and the details of each stay, the concierge team can coordinate restaurant reservations, childcare, private chefs, cultural visits, transfers and experiences in the Atlas Mountains or surrounding regions.
Clients also receive a personalised travel guide bringing together addresses and recommendations selected around their interests, from restaurants and activities to places worth discovering during their stay.
