Portugal is a wonderful country with beautiful coastal villages to explore. From fishermen villages, picturesque ports, to hamlets flanked by rugged nature and boasting enchanting coves.

Odeceixe - Algarve

This small picturesque village in the Algarve was once a 70s hippy's favourite destination. Surrounded by wild nature and the beautiful Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park, this coastal town is a must-visit for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. 

This small hamlet of only 900 inhabitants enjoys the slow pace of life, the one that seems to always revolve around a town square, where children play, and adults enjoy a nice chat on a bench. 

Given its hippy influences, this beautiful village prevails as a peaceful haven with bohemian impressions. What's more, it is home to one of the best nudist beaches in Portugal. 

On your visit, remember to enjoy Odeceixe's laid-back way of life, from whiling away and getting lost through its quaint alleys, to feasting on its excellent cuisine, and getting to know its hospitable locals. This village will undoubtedly steal your heart away.

Ferragudo - Algarve

Ferragudo - Algarve

With its whitewashed houses, brightly coloured decorations, and cobblestone alleys, this might be the quintessential Algarvian village. 
Ferragudo is an old fishing village, located on the westernmost part of Lagoa, Algarve. 

Given its location facing the coast of Portimao, this village was once a strategic spot which attracted civilisations galore the past-- including the Carthaginians, Phoenicians, and Romans. 

One of the most striking attractions in Ferragudo is the Fort of Sao Joao do Arade. The fort sits between two beaches, Praia da Angrinha and Praia Grande, built in the 17th-century to protect the region from pirate attacks.

Vila Franca do Campo - Island of São Miguel, Azores

Villa Franca is a beautiful fishing village located on the south coast of the island of Sao Miguel. It boasts a marina and a picturesque old town, rich in architectural heritage. 
To contemplate breathtaking views of the coastal town and its surrounding nature, climb up the staircase of the Nossa Senhora da Paz chapel-- which offers a perfect belvedere. 
 
Its most famous attraction is its islet of Vila Franca, home to an ancient crater of a submerged volcano, availed as a natural swimming pool, and known as a paradise for snorkelling and other aquatic activities. The islet can be reached by ferry from the marina. 

Caminha - Viana do Castelo

Caminha - Viana do Castelo

If you're a sunset lover, then you will fall in love with Caminha. Imagine yourself relishing a glass of Vinho Verde from one of the best viewpoints in the world. Yes, this seaside village, boasts some of the most magical sunsets and views you will ever witness. 
 
Located in the northernmost part of Portugal, at the mouth of the Minho river and bordering Spain, Caminha also holds a popular music festival every year since the 60s, called the EDP Vilas de Mouros, where people can enjoy an array of indie, alternative, and rock artists. 
 
A special mention needs to also go to its long stretches of dune beaches, exquisite fish and seafood, and pastry shops where one can taste some traditional Portuguese cakes.

Carvoeiro - Algarve

Carvoeiro is a traditional fishermen village in the Algarve, where quaint boats and sailors set the backdrop to a beautiful day of glittering sunshine and shimmering azure waters. It's situated along a striking coast with golden beaches and dramatic natural landscapes. Carvoeiro is the perfect destination if you want to spend some relaxing and peaceful holidays, away from the hustle and bustle of life. The atmosphere is laid-back, hospitable and intimate, making it an ideal destination for families, and couples. 
The region offers many attractions, things to do, and historical sites to explore. It also boasts some challenging hiking routes, perfect for those outdoor lovers. 
One favourite must-visit is the cliff of Algar Seco.
