Dakar: a cultural milestone

Dakar: a cultural milestone

About sixty kilometres North of the main seaside resorts of Senegal, Dakar is an exuberant city where the great diversity of West African culture is combined. Its markets unveil a festival of colours, as well as the traditional clothes that the inhabitants continue to wear proudly in the streets.

To bring back a souvenir for your loved ones, go to the Sandaga market. Off the Senegalese capital, Gorée is a small island that remembers the centuries of slavery. The visit is particularly moving. Use the morning or afternoon to visit the island to avoid heavy traffic. During your excursions, do not miss a visit to the great mosque of Dakar, famous for its minaret of 67m and for the fineness of its decorations.

Stay in Senegal: other sights to discover

Stay in Senegal: other sights to discover

Often seen on television during the previous arrivals of Paris-Dakar, Lake Rose owes its particular colour to a microorganism which thus struggles against the high salinity of its waters. Besides the pleasure of admiring an exceptional ecosystem, we start to admire the Herculean work defeated by the men who collect salt in the lake.

Back in Saly, you can explore the landscapes of the Sahel by heading in the direction of the reserve of Bandia. You can admire giraffes, rhinoceros, but also imposing baobabs.
