The peace and quiet of the beach of Diabat comes with an added bonus: a magnificent view over Essaouira and its bay. Located just 6km from Essaouira, it is also a delight for history lovers, since the ruins of the 18th-century Borj el Baroud castle are right on the beach. It's a curious sensation to see the waves breaking directly on the stones. Diabat beach can also be explored on horseback or by camel. It's a unique, magical experience, and an opportunity to soak up in the area’s special ambience.
Essaouira's best-known beach, Sidi Kaouki, lies some 25km south of Essaouira. This sprawling soft-sand beach offers a long stretch of open space, which together with its strong winds provides plenty of opportunity for thrills and spills in the shape of surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. The offshore winds also contribute to some impressive waves, which only contributes further to the untamed, elemental feel of the place.
If it's unspoilt scenery you're after, the wild landscape of Bhaibah beach is the perfect setting. Here, the simple pleasures of nature take centre stage, as rugged, scrub-like features punctuate the golden sands and a soothing sunshine pours down from above. Calm is the order of the day in a place where sleepy cafés and friendly restaurants offer you a place to sip a glass of sweet, mint tea or enjoy grilled fish as you while away the time. After a well-deserved swim, admire a magnificent sunset before returning to your luxury riad in Essaouira with a head full of wonderful images.
Soundtracked by the lulling of the waves and sheltered from the wind, discover the beautiful beach of Iftane. Situated just a few kilometres from Essaouira, this gorgeous beach offers some truly remarkable scenery: a magnificent cove cradled by impressive cliffs. Iftane also goes by the name of Sidi Ahmed Essayeh beach, after the fishing village that lies at the foot of the cliffs. Since the beach is reached on foot, the little cove is often deserted, with just a few fishing boats to greet you. Once suitably unwound and recharged, you might want to return by quad bike, along a track lined with argan and juniper trees, for a truly unique experience.
The charm of Tafedna beach lies in its proximity to the local culture. Set between Essaouira and Agadir, a rustic collection of pretty white and blue fishermen's houses line the coast of an authentic beach far removed from the trappings of the more tourist beaches. This beach is visited mainly by locals and fishermen, who come to mingle on its tranquil shores. It is an invitation to admire the simple grandeur and understated charm of the coastline around Essaouira. A visit to the traditional 'hanouts' (small shops beloved by locals) can provide some gentle entertainment, before you head back to your villa for a refreshing dip in your swimming pool or an indulgent soak in the jacuzzi.
