Mountain biking is one of the best ways to explore Andalusia, with its beautiful natural landscapes and inhabitants. Essentially, Andalusia is a rural mountainous region, so one can easily find numerous mountain bike routes on the outskirts of every town. Even if some routes aren't defined with specific bike tracks, one can still venture and peddle along its wild areas as Andalusia's geographical features are bliss for cyclers. 
Appreciating its countryside with rolling hills, mountains, olive groves, and refreshing coastal routes will make for an exciting bike ride.

The Gran Senda of Malaga

One of the most popular cycling routes in Malaga is the famous "Gran Senda".  It consists of a circular trail covering 660 km in 35 stages traversing through 51 of the most picturesque municipalities and charming villages in Malaga. It also includes four Nature Parks and five Nature Reserves. Connecting with the Gran Recorrido (a network of hiking routes throughout Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and as far as Greece) and the Camino Mozárabe de Santiago, it's considered the most beautiful route for its various natural landscapes and its commitment to Malaga's sustainable development. The first stage starts in Rincón de la Victoria and ends in Alhaurín de la Torre, bordering the Costa del Sol.

The TransAlandalus is known as the Mecca of all cycling routes in Andalusia, given it encircles through its eight provinces and breathtaking Nature Parks and UNESCO Heritage Nature Reserves. This 2,000 km-route traverses through the breathtaking landscapes of Karst de Yesos in Sorvas, Cazorla, Despeñaperros, Sierra de los Filabres, Cabo de Gata, Doñana, Los Alcornocales, Almijara, Sierra Nevada, Alhama, Sierra de Gádor, Andújar, Montoro, Valle de Los Pedroches, Sierra de Baza and Cardeña. What's more, you can even plan your route according to your physical level requirements on www.transandalus.org and meet fellow cyclists to enjoy a mountain biking adventure. From wild ravines, valleys, sandy beaches to mountains, picturesque towns and whitewashed villages-  plan out your bike route and follow the tracks on their Mobile App. 

The TransNevada

Along its 450 km, the TransNevada cycling route surrounds the Sierra Nevada National Park, offering breath-catching views of the highest summits of the Iberic Peninsula, one of which is the Sun Mountain (Montaña del Sol). Running at an altitude of 1,500 and 2,000 metres and divided into eight stages, the route is specifically designed for mountain biking. Among the backdrops of Almeria and Granada one can admire the sceneries of the Lecrin Valley, West of Sierra Nevada, the Marquesado del Zenete, Guadix, the Alpujarra of Almeria-Alto Andarax, and Alpujarra of Granada-- pure bliss!

Traversing through nine Nature Reserves of the Sierras Béticas along 36 km between the Cadiz towns of Olvera and Puerto Serrano, Via Verde de la Sierra cycling route will take you by the banks of various beautiful rivers such as the Guadaira and Guadalete. It also crosses by the unparalleled regions of the Peñón de Zaframagón Nature Reserve, known as the most inhabited vulture sanctuary in Europe, as well as The Coripe Lagoon, the Intercontinental Biosphere, and the Salado de Morón.
The route passes through 30 tunnels, three of which are more than 1 km long, so it's advisable to carry lights lest lighting fails in any tunnel. 

The Sendero GR 247 of the Southern Forests

With 478 signposted km along 21 main stages and 11 detours, The Sendero GR 247 crosses through the Villas Natural Park. Known as one of the most impressive mountain routes in Southern Europe with a wealth of flora and fauna, one can explore its summits for admiring the encompassing views, charming villages, forests, waterfalls, rivers, castles, and other historical sites. Additionally, one can appreciate the beautiful Sierra de Cazorla, known as the largest wooded area in Spain. Cycling this route means the chance to explore one of the most peaceful and well-preserved areas of Spain.
