The municipality of Sobrescobio is home to the Redes Natural Park. This park is crossed by the Ruta del Alba, one of the most famous paths in the region. On foot or by bike, discover the wonders of nature by crossing different landscapes among forests and meadows. Signs will show you the way along the 7 km route. One of the highlights of this hike is undoubtedly the waterfall, as water is very much present on this route steeped in history. This trail was once used to transport iron from the Carmen mine, the remains of which can still be seen.
A must-see landscape in Asturias, this viewpoint offers an incredible panorama of the mountains and the ocean. From this viewpoint you can see green areas as far as the eye can see and the famous Picos de Europa. Climbing the paths leading to the lookout you may be lucky enough to see cows and horses running free. Once there, you can also climb up to the cement platform, a 360 degree balcony. It is also a starting point for many hikes.
Home to a wide range of fauna and flora, beech trees, oak trees, deer, bears, otters... Lose yourself in this nature reserve which is home to various landscapes, mountains, forests and waterholes. This reserve is protected, so it is not a place for water activities, but hiking is very popular here. There are various routes and they are signposted.
Enol, Ernica and Bricial (the latter is only visible when the ice melts) are the three lakes of Covadonga, located in the west of the Picos de Europa Park. Surrounded by mountains, at an altitude of over 1000 metres, it is a peaceful place where you can rest. Relax in this mountainous setting, in the heart of nature, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Sacred Cave and the Sanctuary of Covadonga are two other must-see sites full of history. These monuments are located in the small village of the same name, which is the starting point for access to the lakes. On the way up you will pass through pastures and cows but also belvederes with breathtaking views. The most famous is the Mirador de la Reina.
This is one of the region's landmarks. This bridge crosses the river Sella in the small village of Cnagas de Onis, near Covadonga. Nicknamed the Roman bridge, it dates from the Middle Ages. A replica of the Victory Cross hangs from the central arch, the original being kept in Oviedo.
Cangas wines, ciders and more than fifty cheeses, Asturian gastronomy is rich and varied. Your trip will not be complete without tasting the local cuisine! The most famous dish is a cassoulet, the Fabada, whose beans are an important protected crop in the region. This dish is offered in many restaurants and is a key ingredient in many other dishes. On the sweet side, we recommend casadielles (nut pastry), marañuela (lemon cake) or frixuelos (pancakes).
Spain is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and coves. Playa del Silencio is undoubtedly one of these wonders. A hidden cove surrounded by rocky cliffs, this is a beautiful setting. To reach this beach, which mixes pebbles and sand, you will have to cross a small forest. This is one of the most photographed places because the landscape is breathtaking. Its turquoise waters and immense cliffs guarantee a total change of scenery.
