The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

In the eyes of travellers, Mallorca sometimes appears to be a very touristy destination overrun by hotels and infrastructures of all kinds. Yet the island cannot be reduced to mass tourism.

To do so would be to ignore the island's exceptional resources. Deep inland, the vast plains of almond and olive trees and vineyards give way to picturesque little villages, the islanders are friendly and the food is excellent... So Mallorca is indeed an idyllic destination, as long as you get off the beaten track and let yourself feel the local culture.

Mallorca is also home to the most beautiful beaches in the Balearic Islands, where the sapphire waters merge with the immaculate cliffs. The lush vegetation that surrounds it adds poetry to this postcard landscape. With family or friends, in high or low season, follow our guide to discover the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca.

Northern beaches of the island

Northern beaches of the island

Cape Formentor Peninsula, the most breathtaking
The Cape of Formentor is the meeting point between the Serra de Tramuntana and the Mediterranean, where mountainous and coastal landscapes come together in an exceptional setting. Its peninsula is bordered by steep cliffs that form a kind of natural fortress. Swimming in Cala Formentor is to enjoy a place of indescribable magnificence. The beach can be reached on foot from the car park or by boat from the port of Pollença, located a few kilometres away. For families, the beach offers a wide range of water sports facilities, hotels and restaurants.

The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

Cala Deia, the most charming

Cala Deia, in the north of the island, is not very suitable for sunbathing, but it is a beach that generally appeals to divers and snorkelers because of the many caves that line the surrounding cliffs. Tourists do not detract from the uniqueness of the place! Its waters oscillate between blue, turquoise and emerald green depending on the sunlight. Around it, pine trees and mountains mingle with the anthracite pebbles of the beach. A path of a few kilometres links Cala Deia to the village of the same name. Before or after swimming, a visit to the village is a must. Its narrow streets are filled with architecture and flowers, giving Deia a unique style. Moreover, when visiting the village, you can enjoy the typical restaurants of the region: the opportunity to taste delicious fish.

The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

Cala Muro, the most family-friendly

Cala Muro is in our selection not only because of its idyllic setting, but also for its family atmosphere, which makes it one of the best beaches in Mallorca. On site, deckchairs, parasols, water sports structures and restaurants follow one another in a breathtaking natural environment. The waters are clear and shallow for children. On windy days, families make way for surfing and windsurfing enthusiasts: Cala Muro offers the best waves on the island. Not far from the beach is Alcudia, a small medieval village with narrow streets and ancient walls. We recommend a visit on Sunday mornings, when the market is open. The Natural Park s'Albufera and the Roman ruins of ancient Pollentia are also places of interest in the area.

The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

Platja des Coll Baix, the most isolated

If the miles of white sand are not enough to satisfy you, head for the secluded coves where nature takes precedence over the tourist. Platja des Coll Baix is one of the most beautiful in the north of the island. On the spot: two hundred and fifty metres of thick grey sand highlighting the blue palette of the sea. The sand comes from the decaying cliffs above the beach. However, getting to the Platja des Coll Baix is not easy. The path to reach it is rocky and steep: good shoes are required. However, these obstacles are quickly forgotten in the face of the natural spectacle that this path offers. The landscape is typically Mallorcan: pine forests and farmland stretch for miles. If you are lucky, you will come across the wild goats that live in the area. If weather conditions permit, the port of Alcudia offers many boats for hire to get to the beach.

Southern beaches of the island

Southern beaches of the island

Cala Sa Cobra, the most original

If Cala Sa Calobra has its place in the ranking of the most beautiful beaches in Majorca, it is without doubt the most surprising. The bathing area is located between two steep cliffs that plunge into crystal clear waters. As a result, the beach is strewn with small stones, the remains of these natural walls. So don't forget to bring water shoes to avoid hurting your feet. Cala Sa Calobra has no facilities but there are a few restaurants in the area. If you prefer local cuisine, head a little further up to the fishing village just off the beach. Very popular in high season, we advise you to avoid Cala Sa Cobra from 1pm to 4pm as the pay car park is full.

The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

Cala Pi beach, the most Mallorcan of all

Situated at the mouth of an old dried-up stream, Cala Pi (Catalan for "beach of the pines") is still the stuff of dreams. Flanked on both sides by impressive cliffs covered with Mediterranean vegetation, the beach is protected from the strong winds of the coast. In the past, the beach was untouched and unknown, and was only frequented by the residents of Cala Pi, the village of the same name located just above. Today, despite the absence of mass tourism or infrastructure, the beach is still one of the most popular spots on the island. In high season, it has a first aid service, toilets, a beach bar and hammock and parasol hire. Nevertheless, it remains a picturesque and charming place. On the right-hand side of the beach you will find the "escars": these somewhat abandoned shelters for fishermen's boats add authenticity to the site. Cala Pi is notable for its environmental quality policy, which has earned it the title of "Ecoplaya". Finally, for those who love a good walk, a short ten-minute path leads directly to a completely wild sandy beach, Cala Beltrán.

The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

Caló del Moro, the most famous

Caló del Moro is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches on Mallorca, as its postcard landscape shows. In fact, it remains one of the most photographed coves on the island. Huge rocks are scattered across this white sandy beach, blending in easily with the translucent blue of the opaline sea. Steep white cliffs contrast with the intense green of the pine trees and the Mediterranean vegetation to add to the spectacle. From Caló del Moro to the Maldives, it is only a short step. The absence of hotels and infrastructures accentuates the disconnectedness of the beach. Here, one feels truly cut off from the world. However, because of its beauty, the beach is very busy in high season. We therefore advise you to go early in the morning. The path to get there is complicated and requires good shoes. Nevertheless, it is quite short (between ten and fifteen minutes of walking), and crosses the cliffs offering an exceptional panorama.

The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

Cala Mondrago, the most natural

In the South of the island, the Mondrago Park is famous for its natural character, for which it has been considered a Special Area of Interest for birds by the European Community. Cala Mondrago, located in the heart of the Park, benefits from this singular beauty. It can be reached by a small train from Palma, which follows winding roads and offers passengers an extraordinary panorama. The wild beach is a favourite spot for divers because of its abundant marine life. For hikers, it is an opportunity to take unmarked routes to the (even wilder) beaches in the vicinity. But Cala Mondrago is also, and above all, opaline water enveloped in warm sand: one of the best places to swim in Majorca.

The most beautiful beaches in Majorca

Cala Es Trenc, the largest

The beach of Es Trenc, a sandbank in the south of the island that extends for more than two kilometres, emerges from the dense Mallorcan scrub. Its natural appearance is the result of an environmental law which protects it and promotes the conservation of its ecosystem. Despite all the tourist facilities available, Es Trenc has not lost its character and is even considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. Very popular in the high season, it is advisable to visit early in the morning to enjoy the caribbean vibes that emanate from the beach.

Our guide to the most beautiful beaches in Menorca is far from exhaustive! Indeed, Mallorca has so many wild coves and heavenly beaches that it would be difficult to list them all. A holiday in Mallorca is a great experience for both the adventurous looking to immerse themselves in the local culture and for families looking for the peace and quiet of a beachfront hotel. So pack your bags and go: your stay in Mallorca will bring you nothing but bliss and excitement!
