The West of Saint Barth, a major tourist destination
Tourism began to take an interest in Saint-Barthélemy in the 1960s. The West of the island and in particular the Bay of Saint-Jean were then favoured for the construction of the first tourist establishments, the West part being less exposed to the winds. Idyllic beaches
Beaches are the main attraction of Saint-Barthélemy. People come here to relax, sunbathe and practice water sports. The West is particularly well developed and offers many opportunities that will please any traveller. If you like wild beaches, the Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon will certainly please you, without forgetting Colombier, which is more difficult to access. Marigot, the only grey sandy beach, is also appreciated for its authenticity and its superb coconut grove. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the incredible rolls of Anse des Cayes, the ideal place to practice surfing and bodyboarding. For a day at the beach with your family, Lorient offers an ideal setting and the most peaceful water. Not to mention the Bay of Saint-Jean and its two idyllic beaches, which will certainly please you for their constant entertainment and small shops.
