Protected behind a mountain range in the North, the Algarve region offers its visitors warm and dry weather where the sun shines almost all year round. This is the hottest part of Portugal that you can visit in both summer and winter.
During the summer, the warmest month is July, with an average temperature of 26°C, sometimes rising to 33°C. We advise you to leave in August if you want to enjoy the beaches because the water is about 22°C. Ideal for a swim from one of the many beaches that the region offers.
The winter is very mild in this region of Southern Portugal. This is perhaps the best time to visit this sublime region because you can enjoy the wilderness landscapes in a better light: with fewer tourists and therefore more tranquility to discover the most touristic area of Portugal. You can enjoy the best activities to do, with friends or family. The average temperature is 12°C during this period, so do not forget to bring warm clothes.
In December, it rains about 10 days in the month, so do not forget to slip an umbrella or hooded jacket into your suitcase.
If you want to enjoy the beaches for a swim, it's best to leave in August when the weather is nice. However, since the Algarve region is one of the most touristic areas in Portugal, beaches are likely to be particularly busy. If you prefer to enjoy breathtaking coastal scenery, hikes and wilderness, we suggest you leave around September - October or March - May. Temperatures are ideal for visits and there are fewer people in the area.
As the sun has chosen to live in the Algarve region almost throughout the whole year, we recommend that you take light clothes in your suitcase! If you leave during the summer, pack your most beautiful swimwear, because it is not the beaches that are missing. You will have the opportunity to perfect your tan under the Portuguese sun.
If you leave during the winter, i.e. from November to February, plan to wear warm clothes and even bring an umbrella, because there are a few days of rain.
Do not hesitate to stroll the streets of the region to find what you need once you are there. The Algarve has many shops that will allow you to find your happiness.
