A whole different world awaits you not far from mainland France in stunning Corsica! A trip to the 'isle of beauty' promises a chance to experience a huge array of landscapes and activities. The wonderful port town of Port-Vecchio in southern Corsica, in particular, is blessed with easy access to some of the most beautiful long sandy beaches in all of Corsica, or indeed the Mediterranean. From the iconic Santa Giulia beach to delightful Cala Rossa, many of these magnificent stretches of soft sand and hidden coves are ideal for a beach outing with the family.

La Plage de Santa Giulia: a stunning beach, ideal for little ones

The famous beach of Santa Giulia is strip of pristine white sand broken up by a scattering of huge red granite rocks, which extends into impossibly clear waters, all watched over by the lush surrounding countryside. The translucent waters are shallow and calm, while the nearby treeline offers plenty of shade for those with sensitive skin - making this idyllic location perfect for taking the children for a swim. This little corner of paradise, offering easy access at only 10 minutes from Porto-Vecchio, is perfect for an afternoon with the family.

For sports enthusiasts, the Santa Giulia sailing school offers a number of courses in stand up paddle, windsurfing and kayaking. Even if you are not in need of a course, the club can provide equipment and other material for hire.

So, whether you're after a day spent whiled away on the sand with the family or you're looking to make the most of the excellent watersports facilities, the breathtaking Plage de Santa Giulia is an excellent option.

La plage de Pinarellu: Nestled between two precious bodies of water

In Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio, a little further north of Porto-Vecchio, the beach of Pinarellu offers a multitude of activities to keep you entertained. While many may choose to relax in the shade of the pine trees, take a dip in its bath-like Mediterranean waters, or even simply gaze out over the turquoise sea to the horizon, you might also like to take a short walk to visit its 16th-century Genoese tower, that sits atop a small promontory at the end of the beach. Just behind the beach you can find the Padulatu lagoon, with its emerald-green waters, bordered by a long stretch of white sand.

Meanwhile, to the north of the beach, towards the granite rocks, the clear shallow, waters are home to all manner of marine life and are ideal for snorkelling. Along the coast you can also find the Palombaggia yacht club, which offers a number of water activities including surfing, as well as an area small seaside restaurants in which you can sample some delicious Corsican specialities. Indeed, since the beach is relatively close to the town centre, you are never too far from a quaint seafront restaurant where you can enjoy some excellent cuisine as you watch the sun go down.

A word of warning, however: as one of the most famous beaches on the isle of beauty, Pinarellu beach does tend to attract a lot of tourists. Therefore, we advise you to go there early in order to make the most of this delightful natural setting.

A mere stone's throw from Pinarellu beach lies the spectacular Plage de Palombaggia. This heavenly strip of fine, ivory-white sand and breathtakingly clear waters can lay claim to being the most beautiful beach in Corsica. Although in peak season you might have to contend with the crowds looking get the perfect shot of this most instagrammable of locations, a visit early in the morning or out of season can offer you the chance to experience an authentic Mediterranean paradise all to yourself.

The upside of Palombaggia's popularity is that parking is available nearby making it easy-to-access by car, while a number of tasteful, chic bars and restaurants are on hand to keep you refreshed!


La Plage de Tamaricciu: beach paradise with fewer crowds

A little further south and west of Palombaggia lies the equally gorgeous Tamaricciu beach. Less busy than its nearby cousin, this stunning location is one of the island's areas of almost unparalleled beauty and serenity. Since the parking area is reserved for those on the nearby private beaches, it can be a little trickier to reach by road. However, those willing to leave the car in the easier-to-access Palombaggia beach and then make their way on foot will be rewarded with some spectacular views and transparent waters, to be enjoyed in relative peace.

Framed by green hills that contrast perfectly with the blue of the sea, the beach of Cala Rossa is a jewel of the commune of Lecci, 15 minutes from Porto-Vecchio. Situated close to luxury properties, it is a unique, peaceful setting. From your towel on the soft sand, you can gaze out to the sea with the Gulf of Porto Vecchio, the Alta Rocca and the Aiguilles de Bavella in the background.

Located between Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio, this half-circle of turquoise water, often compared to a shell, is one of the most beautiful beaches in France. Bordered by pine trees and huge red granite rocks, it is a unique beach whose two ends form peninsulas, lending the beach a crescent moon shape. Its well-preserved natural environment is a favourite among holiday makers in summer.

Cala Rossa is also home to some cosy bars and restaurants, as well as a sailing school: perfect for those looking to try their hand at some new aquatic activities, such as kayaking, pedal boats, swimming and snorkelling.

Its well-preserved natural environment is a favourite among holiday makers in summer. 

La Plage de Porto Novo, hidden gem tucked away in nature

Looking for a peaceful, quiet spot in the heart of nature? Then the splendid beach of Porto Novo may well be worth a visit! However, a day spent in its charms will have to be earned... there is no parking nor roads nearby so a trip to the beach of Porto Novo will require a 30-minute walk along the coastal path. That's not to say the walk in itself isn't pleasurable. The luxuriant natural setting and awe-inspiring panoramas of southern Corsica offer plenty to enjoy along the way. And after having crossed the forest, this long wild beach will open out before your eyes. Finally... don't forget to bring a picnic as this beach is more than a little off the beaten track!
