The Best Restaurants in Courchevel

A destination of almost unparalleled glamour, the alpine resort of Courchevel has long attracted the rich and beautiful to its well-manicured slopes and prestigious après-ski scene, and is well deserving of its status as one of the best luxury ski resorts in the Alps. It should come as little surprise then that it is also famed the world over for its first-class gastronomic scene, where more traditional alpine cuisine sits alongside the refined offerings of a constellation of Michelin-starred restaurants. Today, Villanovo takes a look and highlights some of our favourite restaurants in Courchevel.

Le 1947 à Cheval Blanc - 3 Michelin stars for this exclusive spot

Housed at the famous Hotel Cheval Blanc and known for its exclusivity (it has just 5 tables), Le !947 - named after Chateau Cheval Blanc prized vintage - is Courchevel's only three-starred restaurant and a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience. An exquisite design in which an open kitchen takes centre stage, allowing diners to watch master chef Yannick Alléno at work, is trumped only by the highly creative take on haute-cuisine, using the finest local produce, that awaits.

Restaurant Sylvestre - a new twist on French cuisine

Restaurant Sylvestre - a new twist on French cuisine

Something of the young upstart by comparison, Sylvestre Wahid's eponymous restaurant has fast become one of the most sought-after tables in Courchevel, and for good reason. With a generous tasting menu the envy of every chef and diner in Courchevel and a commitment to exploring the lesser known parts of France's rich and varied terroir, the imagination and craft on show at the cocoon-like Restaurant Sylvestre (part of the Grandes Alpes Hotel) has helped to breathe new life into our understanding of what French gastronomy can be.

Le Farçon - A culinary journey awaits

A spruce forest just outside the village of La Tania provides the magical setting for this gastronomic treat, as chef Julien Machet invites diners on a journey to celebrate the history and present of the Savoyard culinary experience, drawing on influences from throughout the region and accompanying the dishes with their own story. A must-visit for lovers of fantastic food and an exploration of local produce.

Le Chabichou - for a dinner where time stands still

Le Chabichou - for a dinner where time stands still

A historic venue and a staple of the Courchevel region, and in rightful possession of two Michelin stars, Le Chabichou delights in offering exquisitely well-crafted local cuisine alongside impeccable service in an elegant, timeless setting, all delivered at a wonderfully leisurely pace, leaving guests plenty of time to savour every dish and soak up the restaurant's warm ambience.

Le Panoramic - awe-inspiring mountain views

Sitting pretty at 2700m, the terrace at the aptly-named Le Panoramic provides visitors to the upper reaches of Courchevel with an unforgettable setting for diners to enjoy mouth-watering local cuisine alongside beautiful sweeping views of Mont Blanc. While the food is perhaps not quite the equal of some of the more illustrious names on the list, it is still a hugely enjoyable showcase of top local produce well prepared. We recommend booking a table on the terrace in advance, to avoid disappointment. For those who don't manage to get a table on the terrace, the intimate lounge can still provide a cosy atmosphere.

L'Altiplano - a taste of Peru in Courchevel 1850

L'Altiplano - a taste of Peru in Courchevel 1850

Something of a departure from the traditional Savoyard cuisine, L'Altiplano at K2 Palace brings the world-class culinary delights of Peru's Altiplano to be enjoyed among the peaks of the French Alps. From exquisite zingy ceviche to colourful prawn dishes, the restaurant's Michelin star is more than deserved, with the setting wonderfully intimate and the service outstanding. A highly recommended dining experience for those looking beyond the specialties of the Savoyard.

Also worth checking out in the K2 Palace: the sensational creations of celebrated pastry chef, Sébastien Vauxion, at the exclusive 2 Michelin-star restaurant, Le Sarkara, are sure to have your taste buds in raptures.

Azimut - impeccable service and top-class food

Azimut - impeccable service and top-class food

Traditional cuisine made from fantastic ingredients, expertly prepared with skill and real attention and served by friendly staff who value a dining room with real atmosphere. This popular venue in the heart of Courchevel La Praz is warmly regarded by visitors and locals alike and can easily hold its own among the very best restaurants in Courchevel. Well worth its Michelin star, yet unshowy in its presentation, Azimut shows up the pomposity of some of the other top restaurants in the region by charming visitors with delicious cuisine and an extensive wine list, served at a reasonable price in an effortlessly professional ambience.

Le Chalet de Pierres - lunch on the slopes

An excellent choice for a spot of lunch by the piste in Courchevel, Le Chalet de Pierres is the perfect place to indulge in some traditional hearty mountain dishes such as fondue and raclette, while soaking up the warm ambience associated with a mountain lodge (including a crackling open log fire). Whether you're seated in a cosy alcove, the upstairs lounge or outdoors on the sunny terrace Le Chalet de Pierres offers one of the best places in Courchevel for an unforgettable slope-side dining experience.
