The third largest island of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea, Paros is one of the most beautiful and attractive islands of the archipelago. Without being bling bling and less trendy than Mykonos, it has a lot of charm with its numerous picturesque villages and its very beautiful beaches.
Villanovo provides you with a list of must-do's and activities not to be missed when staying in Paros.
Stroll around Naoussa, the most typical village of Paros
Naoussa is one of the most typical villages of Paros, with its cubic houses with blue shutters and whitewashed walls, its bougainvilleas and its colourful fishing boats moored on the pier. Lovers of fish and seafood cuisine will be delighted. On the way, stop at the grove of St. Nicholas, a renowned nature reserve with a blue-domed chapel.
Living in Parikia
The capital of the island home to the main port where you will dock by ferry, this beautiful village is distinguished by its maze of narrow, cobbled streets of old churches, quaint shops and blue and white houses. Parikia is also known for its lively and cheerful atmosphere in its cafes and restaurants. At nightfall, head to BeBop, a charming terrace bar facing the turquoise sea. There is a good jazz programme.
Get some height in Lefkes
Situated 300 metres above sea level, Lefkes is a mountain village with a cluster of houses built in an amphitheatre. Every year, the "Festival of the Karavalas" is celebrated in the last week of August to mark the end of the summer. On this occasion, the inhabitants eat karavalas (large snails), cheese and wine from the region. On this trip to the hills you should visit Panagia Ekatontapiliani, the "church of 100 doors", a 6th century ecclesiastical complex decorated with beautiful frescoes. At the top of the village you will see an ancient mill and a 17th century Venetian castle.
Exploring the ancient marble quarries, walks and picnics around the vineyards and wild herbs, full moon hikes, bike tours: Paros hike offers a great selection of walks on the island. The local English-speaking guide, Christoforos Korovesis, will tell you many anecdotes during these nature excursions.
