1) Cascate del Mulino, Tuscany

Tuscany, the land of beautiful hills and countryside landscapes, is a region boasting a wealth of natural wonders. One of which is the hot spring Cascate del Mulino. This heavenly place is a cascade of white limestone pools overflowing with warm, turquoise waters, and beautiful travertine rocks-- which have been called the natural thermal baths of Saturnia.

Located at the foot of an ancient millhouse near the village of Montemerano, this hot spring is rich in sulphur, sulphate, carbon and alkaline bicarbonate. People have used these therapeutic hot springs since Ancient Rome, where the elite society would come here to pamper themselves.

Its hot waters flow at 37.5ºC, and are perfect for a soak during autumn, winter and early spring-- when there are also fewer people around. Enjoying the contrasting temperatures in the middle of this heaven on earth spot is ideal for spending a soothing day with your loved ones.

As the legend goes, the Therme of Saturnia was born after the god Saturn became disappointed and angry with humans and thus hurled lightning bolts at Moun Amiata, causing sulphurous waters to rise and create these unique limestone and turquoise pools with carved mini-waterfalls. Undoubtedly, just a glimpse into these beautiful hot springs will capture your imagination into believing that this could only be the work of a god.
