4 reasons to visit Barcelona in winter

Avoid crowds

The main reason to visit Barcelona in winter is to avoid the crowds you may experience in summer. The long queues have disappeared, so you can easily visit the city's most beautiful monuments such as the Sagrada Familia and Güell Park. Without the huge crowds it is then possible to enjoy the city and its beautiful places, such as the famous rambla. The soft light that shines through the stained glass windows of the Sagrada Familia has something truly magical about it.

Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, with its impressive buildings of typical Gothic architecture, reveals many secrets. There is something mystical about your walk through this district, so you can enjoy it without worrying about the many tourists.

Experience the many festivities

When visiting Catalonia in winter, you will be able to attend many celebrations. One of the most important is Christmas, where you can stroll through the many Christmas markets and see typical Catalan festivities such as the caganer or the caga tió. During the New Year you can celebrate with all your friends and don't forget to eat your 12 grapes to the sound of the New Year's chime! Then the 6th of January is known as the day of the kings, the day before this festivity you will be able to attend a big parade where sweets and magic are distributed around the city. So follow this beautiful procession and leave with your pockets full of sweets and chocolate!

Discover winter gastronomy

Barcelona is known for its many tapas restaurants and good Spanish gastronomy. In winter you can eat churros dipped in melted chocolate and other hot fritters. The Carrer de Petritxol, in the Gothic Quarter, is famous for its churrrerias. At the bend in the street you can smell the smell of chestnuts roasting on a grill from the beginning of October.
Also, turron is a traditional confectionery of the season, made from almonds and sugar. You can find dozens of different varieties available in markets and supermarkets all over Barcelona.
