The Home
This is a lovely traditional country house that has been beautifully restored with some modern touches. It is located near to the fishing village of Ahangama famous for its fishermen, and about 30 mins from the historic town of Galle.
Whilst Villa Kasuni is not on the beach it is very close to fabulous beaches and there are a never ending supply of tuk tuks that will ferry you around.
The house now boasts a polished terrazo floor that reflects the light at all angles and has 4 ensuite bedrooms, all with air conditioning. The bathroms in three of the bedrooms have open-air showers so if showering under the stars ticks a romantic box on your boulevard then you will love this.
In fact we have to say the whole house has a romantic feeling to it. It is warm, inviting, friendly and welcoming. The staff here are never without a fabulous genuine smile that is infectious.
The blue tiled pool contrasts with the lush green of the garden and has an infinity edge at one end giving the feeling of looking over a waterfall. Large sun loungers and a pool pavilion mean that you do not have far to walk if the heat of the baking sun gets too much.

superbe maison, très bien entretenue, décorée avec goût, personnel sympathique
Personnel très sympathique, mais deux bémols:
1-Cuisine très bonne , mais peu variée au final (comme la cuisine sri lankaise au demeurant), peu d'effort sur les desserts
2-Gros souci avec un chauffeur recommandé par Kumudu ( la maitresse de maison): une sortie effectuée lors d'une journée entière à Galle s'est bien passée, moyennant un tarif de 5500 LKR. Le lendemain, nous demandons a Kumudu de nous mettre en relation avec un chauffeur afin de nous rendre à Mirissa, pour nous tranférer vers notre prochain hotel. C'est le même chauffeur qui se présente. Lorsque nous demandons le tarif, avant de partir, Kumudu nous dit "cheap, cheap". Nous sommes alors en confiance, et vu que la distance est courte ( 20 mn de conduite), je ne relève pas.
Arrivés à l’hôtel, le chauffeur nous demande 6000 LKR !!! Je refuse et lui fait comprendre qu'il est hors de question que je lui donne cette somme. il tente de négocier légèrement à la baisse, mais je refuse. Je demande alors à ce qu'il appelle Kumuku, ce qu'il fait, afin de trancher. A mon plus grand étonnement, elle me demande quand même de lui donner 4000 LKR, ne semblant pas étonnée du comportement de son chauffeur. Ne souhaitant pas y passer l'après midi, je lui donne la somme et le libère, mais garde un sentiment amer de cette dernière expérience. Une employée de maison de mèche avec un chauffeur pour pratiquer des tarifs exorbitants, bof bof.. Je veux bien payer un tarif "touriste" et jouer le jeu, cela fait partie des voyages, mais de là à être pris pour un pigeon, alors que nous étions en confiance et lui avions laissé un pourboire plutôt confortable ce ne m'a pas du tout plu.

Some of the Mosquito nets had holes
The wooden floor and steps of the cabana in the garden were rotten and unsafe. One rotten plank collapsed and one of our party fell through the wooden floor causing considerable damage to her foot, extensive bruising to her leg and to her hip.. This was very painful and resulted in her being in considerable pain and discomfort.
