One of the main ways to get to the Algarve is by air. The airport is located in Faro, with as many as 6 million people passing through it each year.
By Car
You can try to come to the region by car. However, the Algarve is in the southern part of the country, so you'll need to be prepared to drive through a lot of Portuguese territory.
Once you arrive at the French-Spanish border, there are two routes to the south of Portugal. The first option is to go through Salamanca, Badajoz and then Evora and Ferreira. The second option is to leave Madrid and head for Estremoz, Montemor-o-Novo and finally Alcacer do Sal.
The Algarve enjoys a pleasant climate all year round, with some seasonal variations.
Autumn
Comparable to an Indian summer, Autumn is the ideal season to discover this beautiful region. It is also a quieter time of year. As in any country, the weather can be unpredictable, but in general the temperature reaches around 20°C in September and October. In November and December, the weather starts to cool down. Despite the high temperatures in early autumn, it is important to note that the water is not as warm as in other southern European countries as it is bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Autumn is perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling. Autumn is a great time to enjoy an unforgettable stay in the Algarve. The region is also known for its golf courses: the charming town of Vilamoura hosts the Portuguese Masters Golf Tournament every year, which attracts many famous golfers.
Winter
Winter is much more forgiving in the Algarve than in some northern European countries. With an average temperature of 13 degrees, cultural visits, hiking, cycling and horse riding are all great activities to enjoy during the winter months. All of the Algarve's popular towns, such as Tavira, Lagos and Albufeira, are as charming in winter as they are at other times of the year. During the Christmas and New Year period, the Algarve welcomes a large number of tourists who wish to escape the bad weather and celebrate these merry festivities here with their family and friends.
Spring
With temperatures ranging from 18 to 26 degrees and fewer tourists than in summer, spring is the prime time to enjoy the Algarve. Just like autumn, spring is the time to enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities that may not be possible in summer due to the heat. After the rainy winter months, the Algarve's landscape is beautiful, verdant and brimming with colourful flowers. Spring is also the season when the almond and orange trees blossom. They give off a sweet scent that will awaken all your senses. It's also a good time to try your hand at surfing! Suitable for all levels, there are many surf schools along the beaches. Note also that prices are considerably more affordable than in summer.
Summer
From June to August, the Algarve receives many visitors. You can enjoy the beautiful beaches and discover the secluded coves! The beach is not the only option available, during the summer you can enjoy a wide range of activities. With over 40 golf courses in the region, the Algarve is the perfect place to play golf at any level. Some of our villas are specially suited to golfers.
