Europe's lakes, with their incredible scenery and assured tranquillity, are an increasingly popular destination. You can get closer to nature by hiking or swimming in fresh water. So let's set off together on a tour of Europe, in search of the most beautiful lakes to visit!

The most beautiful lakes in Europe

This beautiful lake located in the Alps in France, close to Switzerland and Italy, offers an idyllic setting, overlooking the surrounding mountains. With its pure water, coming from mountain springs, it is known to be one of the cleanest lakes in Europe. Lake Annecy enjoys an impressive reputation, thanks in particular to the paintings of Paul Cézanne. You can also discover the beautiful city of Annecy, with its cobbled streets, lined with bars and restaurants, pretty canals and charming pastel-coloured houses. 
In the summer you can enjoy a nice bike ride and relax on one of the many sandy or grassy beaches along the shores of the lake. In winter you can easily access the best ski slopes in the nearby resorts!

The lakes of Northern Italy are true wonders of nature, and Lake Como is undoubtedly the most beautiful! Located north of Milan, it alone embodies the Dolce Vita, where many Italians come to recharge their batteries in their second home. You can enjoy many activities such as boat trips to see the beautiful scenery from the lake. But also don't miss the Centro storico, the historic heart of the city that stretches all the way to the shore, where most of it is pedestrianised, allowing you to walk easily through the small medieval cobbled streets with its many shops and restaurants. A real treat!

The Plitvice National Park is the place not to be missed if you are staying in Croatia! It is the oldest national park in Europe and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. There are a total of 16 lakes connected by a series of waterfalls, situated in a forest inhabited by deer, bears, wolves and rare birds.

This beautiful lake is still somewhat untouched by mass tourism, so you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere away from the crowds on the shores of Lake Hallstatt in Austria. This is a perfect place to take beautiful pictures, the small town of Hallstatt is probably the most beautiful example of traditional and picturesque villages in Austria. Here you can go boating or fishing. There are also several points of view to capture the beauty of the place, the most unmissable is to the north of the village, where you can see the lake and the Lutheran church of Hallstatt with the mountains in the background.

The most beautiful lakes in Europe

Iceland is known for its many crater lakes but the most visited and most beautiful is undoubtedly Lake Kerio in the south of the country. It is 3,000 years old and has a striking turquoise blue colour with steep walls reminiscent of a lunar place. If you like hiking, don't hesitate to do so to enjoy the magnificent view. The lake is also situated on the Golden Circle Road, a very famous tourist route in Iceland whose three most famous stops are the Golden Gullfoss Waterfall, the Haukadalur Valley and the Thingvellir National Park.
