Copacabana, a dream destination?

Who hasn't heard of Copacabana?  Whether for its name often associated with exotic cocktails or for its famous beach, this destination attracts thousands of tourists every year and has much more to offer than just relaxing moments or delightful tropical drinks. At Villanovo, we have set out to discover this unique destination and share all its secrets with you.

What is Copacabana

What is Copacabana

Widely popular in the world, Copacabana is one of Brazil's many gems. This lively neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro takes its name from a small Bolivian village on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Indeed, it was in 1754 that a monk decided to name the Copacabana district in memory of his Bolivian village of the same name. Over the years, nestled between the beach and the mountains, Copacabana has grown and begun to attract the attention of new inhabitants as well as visitors from all over the world, who appreciate this district for its permanent dynamism and the wide range of activities it offers, both for every age.

Copacabana is home to one of the most famous beaches in the world and it is not for nothing that it is nicknamed "the little princess of the seas". Its crescent-shaped crescent extends over 4.5 kilometres and runs along the very touristy Atlantica Avenue. So, if you are looking for a moment of relaxation and you want to leave your private swimming pool to return to the sand, the Copacabana beach will bring you complete satisfaction. However, we recommend that you go there early enough, so that you can settle down at a distance of more than 2 metres from your neighbours. As the day goes by, this large beach becomes the place of predilection for numerous animations such as open-air concerts or the very famous fireworks display on New Year's Eve. If you have the opportunity to go there on this occasion, you won't regret the fun that awaits you! The Cariocas dress in white and lay flowers on the water in honour of Lemanjà, the goddess of the sea.

What to see beyond the beaches?

What to see beyond the beaches?

As you can see, Copacabana wouldn't be Copacabana without its famous beach. However, this pleasant neighbourhood has much more to offer you than just relaxing on the sands, and includes many small sites farther away from the tourists, for our enjoyment. Don't miss a walk in front of the very famous Copacabana Palace of the 1930s where the world stars including Queen Elizabeth (just that) used to meet, and whose building was featured in many movies.

At the same time, you will find in this part of town many restaurants, cinemas, but also shops, enough to delight shopping lovers. Copacabana never sleeps and also has its share of nightclubs such as Fosfobox, recently installed or the Bunker 94, one of the oldest in the district. For quieter evenings, you will find many performances of Samba, the dance that is a must in Brazil and the origin of the Rio Carnival

For cultural visits, the Fort of Copacabana, a former military base transformed, will welcome you in its museum for visits on the theme of the Brazilian defence of the time when the fort was used for the army. This monument of impressive grandeur also presents a small treasure: the Colombo pastry shop where you will be able to taste culinary specialities from Brazil but also from Portugal. A rendezvous not to be missed!
