When is the Best Time to Visit Morocco?

From blossoming spring and seaside summers to bright autumn and mild winter, Morocco offers a diversity of climates and landscapes that are unique in North Africa. From Marrakech and Essaouira to the Atlantic coast and the Atlas Mountains, each season reveals a different atmosphere. Depending on your desires, Morocco can be discovered in different ways, influenced by contrasting climates that shape every season's mood. The Villanovo team will help you choose the best time to visit Marrakech, Essaouira, the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, and more, for an unforgettable trip to Morocco.

Spring in Morocco: The ideal season for exploring

Spring in Morocco: The ideal season for exploring

Weather and temperatures in March, April, and May

Spring, from March to May, is one of the most pleasant times to discover Morocco. Temperatures range from 20 to 28°C, with mild weather and little rainfall, perfect for exploring the whole country. The days are sunny, the nights are mild, and the landscapes are green, especially in the valleys of the High Atlas. The Mediterranean climate is ideal both on the beautiful beaches of the Atlantic coast and inland.

Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains: Spring festivals & discoveries

Spring is the best time to stroll through the gardens of the imperial city of Marrakech, or go hiking in the Atlas Mountains to the forests and traditional villages. You might want to avoid the desert since sandstorms are most prevalent in the spring. The Rose Festival brings colour to Kelaat M'Gouna in the M'Goun Valley, while the moussems, large annual traditional fairs, and markets invite you to experience the rich culture like a local in a peaceful atmosphere.

Our favourite villas for your holiday in Morocco in spring:  Kashabh Idylle, Villa Rose-Anna and Villa Palmeraie 32 in Marrakech; Dar Algie in Essaouira

Summer: From the Atlantic Ocean to the Atlas Mountains

How hot is Morocco in June, July & August? Weather & temperatures

Moroccan summers last from June to September: temperatures rise inland, where the climate becomes arid and hot, especially in the height of summer in Marrakech. Avoid the crowds and hot conditions by exploring in the early morning. On the Atlantic coast and coastal areas in the rest of Morocco,  the breeze makes it less hot, resulting in temperatures of 25-30°C in Essaouira or Oualidia. This temperature range illustrates the contrasts of Morocco.

From the Atlantic to the Atlas: Summer experiences in Morocco

July and August are the best time to head to the sea. Try surfing in Essaouira, kitesurfing in Oualidia, cruises, sunset walks, and delicious seafood at local restaurants. Summer's longer days are perfect for nature lovers, with the trails in the Atlas Mountains offering an escape from the heat. Experienced hikers will love the climb to Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. In the evening, the atmosphere is relaxed in the riads, with their patios and mint tea.

Our clients recommend these villas for your summer holiday in Morocco: Villa Betty and Villa DL in Essaouira; La Diouana in Oualidia; Villa Almounia in Marrakech

Autumn: Golden light and a return to calm

Morocco weather and climate in September, October and November

From September to the end of November, bright autumn has mild weather, with temperatures between 20 and 26°C. Without the scorching heat of summer, autumn is a great time to visit Morocco. Temperatures stabilise, rainfall is rare and the landscapes take on a golden hue during this harvest season for Morocco's famous dates.

The best time to visit Morocco: Where to go & what to do in autumn

The souks are quieter, the Palmeraie calms down after the summer, and the roads of southern Morocco lead you to Skoura, Ouarzazate and the gates of the Sahara Desert. The Moussem of Tan-Tan, an annual fair bringing together nomadic tribes, and the Marrakech Film Festival animate the season.

Our choice of the most beautiful homes in autumn: Maison N, Villa Essaada El Majal, and Dar 118 in Marrakech; Dar Baiana in Essaouira

Winter: From desert sun to a mountain resort

Is Morocco hot in December? Mild temperatures in November - March

From November to February, winter in Morocco is synonymous with mild weather. The thermometer reads 18-22°C in the south, while snow covers the peaks of the Atlas Mountains, the country's highest point. The temperature differences are most noticeable on sunny days and cold nights. Don't forget to pack warm layers.

Sun, dunes, and ocean: The many sides of winter in Morocco

From Oukaïmeden ski resort to hiking in the Agafay Desert or Merzouga, winter in Morocco is a mix of mountains and nature in mild weather. In Essaouira, November - March are the best months for winter surfers, while the peaceful ambience in the hammams and at the markets is ideal for relaxing activities.
