La Diouana

In summary

La Diouana is a beautiful villa with panoramic ocean views overlooking the Oualidia laguna on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Just two and a half hours from Marrakech, the pace at La Diouana is slow and unhurried. By day you can snooze in a hammock or sunbathe on the roof terrace, gazing down at the lagoon far below you. At night-time, you can relax and gaze up at the stars, the only sounds are the distant crash of waves and the rustle of wind in the pine trees.
The villa has 5 bedrooms and sleeps 10 guests (12 on request), terraces and garden, a swimming pool and daily maid service.
Please note: bookings are for 7 nights, Saturday to Saturday.


Bedrooms

The main villa has three bedrooms. There are two additional bedrooms in the cottage. All bedrooms are ensuite with heating and air conditioning.
The cottage is located in a separate building in the garden (60 feet from villa) and makes an ideal family suite.

Room 4
Room, Garden level, direct access to the garden, view of the garden, in a pavilion. The bedroom has 3 Beds including 1 double bed 160 cm, 2 single beds 80 cm. Bathroom ensuite, with shower. WC in the bathroom. This bedroom includes also air conditioning.

Room 5
Room, 1st floor, view of the garden, in a pavilion, independent access. This bedroom has 1 double bed 160 cm. Bathroom ensuite, with bathtub with shower head. WC in the bathroom. This bedroom includes also air conditioning.


Indoors

The house is a beautiful mixture of traditional and contemporary Moroccan design. It is equipped with a large kitchen, a study/library with broadband access and a sitting room with wood-burning stove, stereo and DVD player.
There is a cottage in the garden with kitchen/sitting room, ensuite bedroom and patio, as well as a separate first-floor apartment, bathroom, terrace and sea views. All rooms have moucharrabieh woodwork and tadelakt (polished plaster) floors.


Outdoors

Hidden behind a high wall the garden of La Diouana is 25,000 square feet of peace and repose. Among the palm trees, jacaranda, mimosa, eucalyptus and olive trees the stresses of the 21st century seem far away.
There are two hammocks, a table tennis table and a set of boules. Younger visitors will enjoy the swings. Not to mention the 8 chameleons, 5 tortoises and 2 peacocks.
La Diouana has an infinity pool as well as a paddling pool for toddlers. The water is warm enough for swimming from April to November. Sunbathing is possible all year round.


Staff and services

The house manager, Abdillah, lives two minutes away and will cheerfully help with suggestions and assistance during your stay. Daily maid service is included in the price.
The house Chefs Fatima and Hanane will be delighted to serve delicious seabass, spider crab, paella, charcoal-grilled kebabs, chicken and olive tagine, vegetable couscous, aubergine, cauliflower & bean salads and many other Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes, including child-friendly options, all at modest prices.


Location

The village of Oualidia is situated north of Essaouira and south of Casablanca, on the wild Atlantic coast of Morocco. Here, the ocean cliffs give way to a five-mile long tidal lagoon. At the southern end of the lagoon lie soft sandy beaches and the ruins of a royal summer palace. To the north, the lagoon winds its way through a protected nature reserve of oyster farms, wetlands and bird habitats.

The house is perched on a clifftop close to the town centre, with a 25,000 sq ft garden, infinity pool and some of the finest views in Oualidia

The beach - a few minutes walk from the house - is safe and pleasant for swimming. You can hire a boat for lagoon excursions and we can arrange fishing trips for sea-bass and sea-bream (Abdillah the house caretaker will grill your catch on the barbecue).
We can organise surfing lessons, windsurfing, kayak, pedalo and catamaran hire. Quad bikes are available in the village. There are also two tennis courts with rackets for hire.
