The picturesque village of Bois-Plage en Ré is home to the largest market on the island, with no fewer than 150 vendors! Take a seat on the church square and enjoy a coffee on a terrace, while taking in the unique atmosphere.

Water sports and idyllic beaches

For lovers of sun and adventure, the beaches on Île de Ré offer a variety of water sports and activities. The beach at La Conche des Baleines, often considered one of the most beautiful beaches on Île de Ré, and Petit Bec lures surfers and sailing enthusiasts. Gros Joncs beach attracts families thanks to its safe waters and children's clubs. At the edge of a pine forest, Trousse-Chemise beach is equally family-friendly, ideal for walking the sandbank at low tide.

Cultural heritage and history

A must-see on the island: The Phare des Baleines lighthouse

The history of Île de Ré is revealed through its emblematic monuments. With its 257 steps, the Phare des Baleines lighthouse offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the north of the island. From its summit, you can admire the ocean's expanse and wild landscapes, a truly breathtaking spectacle. After the climb, grab an ice cream at the famous La Martinière in the nearby town of Saint-Clément-des-Baleines.

A masterpiece of Vauban: The Saint-Martin-de-Ré fortress

With its 14km of ramparts, the Saint-Martin-de-Ré fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A testament to Vauban's military genius, it offers a fascinating insight into the island's history and unbeatable views over the harbour and surrounding area. This 17th-century masterpiece is truly one of the stars of Île de Ré tourism.

The Abbaye des Châteliers: A vestige of Cistercian architecture

On the eastern side of the island, the imposing remains of the Abbaye des Châteliers will transport you into a mystical atmosphere. Founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, this site bears witness to a rich historical and religious past. Located in the most peaceful green setting, tourists are invited to contemplate its ruins that are steeped in history.
