Situated on the Moroccan Atlantic coast, El Jadida has been fortified by the Portuguese at the beginning of the 15th century. Its bastions and ramparts are still perfectly preserved. Moreover, the old fortress (Mazagan) was registered in the world patrimony of UNESCO and constitutes the medina or the historic centre of El Jadida.
