The Best Beaches in Comporta

Located an hour and a half drive from Lisbon, Comporta is a small but lovely natural paradise. You won't find a hotel complex or barely a beach umbrella anywhere along its 60-kilometre stretch of coastline. Allow yourself to be swept away by the beauty and immensity of the Atlantic Ocean, with only the sound of the waves breaking on the shore to entertain you.
Find out which of Comporta's three beaches are ideal for your holiday.

The Best Beaches in Comporta - Comporta

Pego Beach

This untouched beach, bordered by white sand dunes and lapped by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, is ideal for a spot of quiet relaxation, but also for enthusiasts of water sports, such as surfing and sport fishing.

In recent years, Pego Beach has grown in popularity and the infrastructure has been improved. There is a footbridge leading to the beach, car parks, security posts, and the SAL restaurant, serving the region's delicious specialities: tambour rice, as well as fish and seafood considered by many as the best in the country. It is also a Blue Flag beach, an international environmental and tourism label that rewards beaches and municipalities for their water quality and environmentally friendly tourism development policy.

Trivia: This beach is a privileged meeting place for high society, frequented in particular by the famous Espirito Santo family, which owns a large part of the land in the region.

Carvalhal Beach

After passing through landscapes of rice fields and forests, you will come across the superb beach of Carvalhal. Lined with dunes, free of buildings that could taint it, this enclave has also been awarded a blue flag and has ideal conditions for surfing, sport fishing, kite surfing and volleyball. The walkways from the car park to the beach offer easy access.

You can rent hammocks and parasols on site and enjoy typical Comporta cuisine. On site, the Dos Pescadores chiringuito is the place to go for fresh fish and local wine.

Comporta Beach

Ideal for families, Praia da Comporta is the most popular beach in the region, drawing many visitors. Overlooking the dark blue and emerald green waters of the Atlantic, it stretches along the golden shoreline for 5km to Brejos da Carregueira.

If you're lucky, you might be able to spot groups of spinner dolphins.

Located at the far end of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve and at the beginning of the Atlantic Ocean, this beach is bordered by wild dunes. A perfect spot for swimming, bodyboarding and catching the sunset.

Head to Café Comporta for a refreshing cocktail and live music, and to Ilha do arroz for delicious traditional local dishes in between dips in the ocean.
